After yesterday’s busy trip to the veterinarian with Andy and the follow-up posts and video, today lacked drama.
This morning, I answered comments on the videos and post, tossed some of the boys’ new toys out for them to chase (and knock under things, where I’ll find them when I clean, I fear!), and spent the afternoon at the military museum.
The museum will be open seven days a week for the summer, which is nice because it means new volunteers will fill in the five other days a week another volunteer and I didn’t cover since last summer.
A new director was hired, I think, after a long search, and she will have a logjam of busy work going back to last summer to catch up with. A good way to learn what’s involved in the museum, eh?!
With the warmer weather, I had several visitors today, something that didn’t happen most of the winter. I always feel great when this city resource starts to get some use! With the coming holiday, Memorial Day, it is all the more important that people visit the military museum for a reminder of what the holiday is all about.
I like to use live flowers when I decorate family graves for Memorial Day. Mom used to put out geraniums when it was her turn to honor our dead, and it has been my turn to continue the tradition the past few years.
Thanks. There are many ways we can honor others on this day. My way isn’t huge, but it is something I am able to do. (I have some physical limitations…!) Another blogger is manning an information line to help point veterans who call to VA resources they can use. I think that is a wonderful way to use the holiday.
You do a great service in both volunteering at the museum and continuing the tradition of your mom.
There are some restrictions on what one can plant and where at the cemetery where I leave the flowers. Unfortunately, a lot of damage is done by the power mowers to plantings and stones by careless workers. I like the idea of the lilacs…!
It sounds like you will make the holiday very meaningful with your activities, something I would have predicted, from what I know of you from your blog. You have a good week, too, Ruth. I hope you are careful not to overdo things.
I have small lilac bushes planted in planters on family graves and prune them and tend them carefully.
We will be attending the memorial at the local Vets memorial with on Memorial day and will be answering cells on the vets local hotline of info for resources on saturday.

That’s nice that you work at the museum and leave live plants! Today Mom read a story to her kids in the liberry to tell them why we have Memorial Day and how it started. Too many people think it’s just about the bbq! Woof!
I’m afraid you are right. That and sales by merchants who profit on the dead, in my humble opinion, when they do it.

It originally was the municipal swimming pool bath house, built in the 1930s as a WPA project. It is located in the oldest part of the city park, next to an historic fountain built around the same time.
