Post 505: Facebook…meh!

I am tired of Facebook. There is something insidious about a mix of cute kittens and virulent diatribes against a US President no matter what he does: Where is the balance?

I’m tired of it. And I’m taking a time out from liking, posting, or commenting on that site. To those people who follow what I post there, this blog will continue to appear on Facebook because I set that share up as an automatic thing. For the duration, though, I won’t be around to respond to comments or questions.

Yeah, I like the kitty pictures. This one comes from Classical Music Humor.

I’ll miss the cute kitties.

UPDATED: Interestingly enough, my readership total went from 321 this morning to 304 after I posted this to Facebook. Let’s see how low we can drop it. Time of this observation: 8/21/14 at 8:47 AM.

  1. I, too, am facebook weary. So much drama, so many uneducated opinions and too many people making mountains from molehills. Worse, people refuse to examine the documentation from both sides of an issue before spilling your “passion” all over the net.

    • For sure. I unfriended a few people the day before I decided to just back off Facebook period. All were such posters. I wanted to educate each and every one of them to the basics of fact checking before posting provocative comments or reposts, but I’ve found that makes little progress in a place built on gossip and many axes to grind.

    • Exactly! I think the President shows unbelievable restraint in the face of ridiculous hate and negativity. Of course, that shows strength of character, especially compared with those who snipe at him.

  2. I saw this on face book too and loved it. The problem I have is I get off and then fall into the guilt trap by a couple of friends to go back on, and then I never hear from them again. So once again I am off and am not going to fall into the guilt trap, or so I hope.
I have grown weary of the drama of whether or not to do the ice bucket challenge or send money and which is better than the other and who’s is right and who is wrong.
Well i think you already get it.
I do not do anything else either and no offense to anyone who does twitter but I do not get that either.
You and the boys have a good week end com in yup way to fast.

    • I went through this with Dailybooth. I liked the format of that site, but there was little oversight by the people who ran the thing toward the end. There was incredibly pornographic photos posted, even whole accounts set up to promote porn, that the administrators didn’t deal with. Considering children as young as 13 were allowed on the site, having live posting of pornographic photos was totally unacceptable AND illegal in most places the site was viewed. I complained a lot about that problem, quit the site a couple times, but came back because it was fun within the small circle of decent people I followed, some of whom I still follow on Facebook — or “followed”? Time will see. In Dailybooth’s instance, the site went down because they never figured out how to monetarize it. Though I increased my readership on Facebook (good), that isn’t as important to me as the kinds of friends and people I meet as fellow bloggers on WordPress. (You, Tim, and Ali are among those friends, of course, and I enjoy all aspects of your blog — Ali, of course, is my favorite part of your posts, and I am especially pleased you can report she is making good progress in healing!)
