Post 531: Andy mocks authority

Andy’s been a pill today, in a sweet kittenish way. First of all, he avoided his medicine. I think he realizes I won’t give it to him after a certain time because I try to give it to him at the same time for best results. I don’t think I’d over dose him if there were too few hours between doses, but, for such a small creature, it just isn’t worth the risk. No dose for today.

After that magic time, the time beyond which I won’t dose him, he showed up again, and took his place on top of the blue carrier on the settee. “See me? I’m right in front of you, human, and you can’t do anything about it!” Andy is a rascal.

Well rested, Andy hopped down on the settee to contemplate his next moves.

"Woohoo! I think I'll tip the wastepaper basket by the computer...while the human watches!"

"What next? Hmm. I'll tip the wastepaper basket in the kitchen!"

Andy contemplates the next move.

Andy contemplates the next move.

"Cheese it! The cops!" Andy realizes I'm watching. Am I just taking photos or am I plotting to get close enough to catch him? Andy takes a hike under the table, a good strategy!

Dougy decides this isn't a good place to be. "If I'm not careful, the human will credit me with the mayhem!"

        • On the positive side, I get around with a cane. Because of Andy, I have to put the cane down and walk as best I can without it for short distances while I get the medicine and hold an increasingly aware cat. I’ve noticed a slight improvement in my mobility issues, something I can build on in the home, where I have numerous things I can grab for and stabilize myself with while walking unassisted.

          • I admit it! Which of us is the good boy? Where are my treats? I’d be hooked up to the computer without relief if it weren’t for the cats. They add a distinct responsibility and purpose into my life so I can’t just sit back and do nothing in retirement. They add mostly humorous touches to daily life, with a few naughty challenges like the wastepaper basket issue presented mostly by Andy or Dougy’s bad habit of using furniture for scratching posts when scratching posts are all over the apartment, strategically placed for their convenience.

    • I caught him at 2:30 this morning, and the little darling got his medicine. He also got some lovin’ and his kitty treats for being a good boy! If I miss the first time I try to catch him, he becomes increasingly difficult to catch the rest of the day. I think he doesn’t like the cold liquid for one thing, but it surely is nastier tasting if it’s had a chance to warm up because he’s been hiding from me. (His medicine has to be refrigerated.)

    • Actually, most of the time, both and Andy and Dougy are! Of course, when they are being naughty cats, I may think otherwise for a few minutes, but they always win me back with their sweet personalities.
