Ali the black kitty just turned five years old a few days ago. It wasn’t a sure thing she’d make it to that birthday because she’s had serious health issues this past year, coming close to death too many times. Now, her veterinarian says she can’t survive much longer, and I know Ruth and Tim’s hearts are breaking.

Ali’s more than just a family pet. Ruth’s husband Tim has serious health issues, and Ali is his best buddy. When Ali does well, he does well or better. She snuggles with him, comforts him, helps him deal with the vicissitudes of dementia and his other health issues. He could be her kitten, for all the love and care she gives Tim. They are inseparable.

Now, this beautiful creature, this loving and sweet kitty is near her end. Prayers for Tim and Ruth while they prepare for the sad day they have to see their little companion pass into memory.

UPDATE ON ALI
Per Ruth (sunsetdragon): “I wanted to tell you that we got a call from our vet and she has new medication that we can afford that she is certain will help Ali. She has been on the phone with her mentor who is a vet back in Chicago, and Ali meets the criteria of felines who this medication will help.
We have hope.”
Good news! Let’s hope and pray this helps Ali to come through this medical crisis!

Ali’s vterinarian has worked above and beyond what one might expect to help her. Ruth and Tim are fortunate to have such a compassionate doctor for their various critters.

That she is. Yes, five is prime of life for a cat. One hopes that her youth helps her in her struggle to survive.

I know how I feel about my fur buddies, and I know you and Tim love all of your critters (not just Ali) just as much. I know from my personal experience with illness that faith and hope are the two things that get one through the worst of things. Poor Ali is lucky not only you but her veterinarian are such tenacious fighters for this beautiful little girl, and that furnishes the hope part of the equation! Hugs to her veterinarian, too, for her willingness to work above and beyond basic care to give Ali the best possible chance for survival. I think her veterinarian must be one wonderful lady!
This is so sad. Reminds me a lot of my grandmother and her stray cat. A feral cat walked in to her one day and gave her company while she suffered from dementia. 🙁 the boy was inseparable from her but he was very old. The vet guessed his age to be around 15. Which for a German forest cat is extremely old.
That’s my main concern for Andy and Dougy. As brothers, they’ve been together all of their lives, with a short time before I accepted Dougy. My lawyer says I can make provision for them in my will, but it isn’t any guarantee my wishes for them will be followed since they are animals. Incredible! I hope I can outlive them so they don’t have to go to a new home or get separated because people don’t want a pair.

So sad to hear Ali is losing the fight. She looks like a very sweet kitty. Our Willow is companion to Rick’s mother. The two watch TV together, and Willow waits by the door when her human is out. Both cat and human are in extreme old age now, and I feel for whichever one goes first.

TY so very much for this post Doug and blessings to all. One step and one day at a time is all any o fuss can do. She is comfortable and not in any pain and today and this is a blessing.
It started out as a celebration of what a wonderful kitty she is, then I read what you just found out. I almost didn’t post it then, then I thought, why not? Ali has been a great comfort to you and Tim, a good kitty, and that is worth celebrating, even if we have the sad news wrapped around it, too. Again, hugs for you, Tim, and Ali… <3
Oh, this is really heart wrenching. Ruth and Tim have so much to deal with. Losing Ali will be a cruel blow for them.

How incredibly sad. This dear couple has my most earnest prayers.
I wish I could be out there in Washington state to give them each a big hug. It will be a rough time. It has been heartbreaking following the posts Ruth’s put up on the various things poor Ali’s been through, and it feels so unfair that she is losing the fight. Yes, one knows this is how life works, yet, in this one instance, if I had one magic wish, it would be used for that family.
Possessing the knowledge and acceptance of how life progresses does little to soothe the broken heart. My heart breaks for Ruth even though I do not know her but I know the pain she is enduring. I often wonder how one heart can endure so much pain especially when it is concentrated in a narrow time frame. They have my prayers and sympathies.
Very true. Ali’s been a big comfort to Ruth’s husband, which, in turn, takes some of the burden of Tim’s care and health issues off Ruth. They have an adult son who has returned home to help as well as Ruth has MS on top of it all.
