Post 766: Ready for Freddy…!

We have an expression in my family: Ready for Freddy. No profound meaning, just that the speaker is ready to get on the road or eager to start doing something.

Today, the kitty boys were ready for Freddy to play with their cat toys, and we had a solid hour of kitty fun before they wandered off to take cat naps — which I hope are for the rest of the day!

Andy is ready for Freddy!

Andy is ready for Freddy!

Odd how that expression popped up this morning. I can’t remember the last time anyone in the family said it. It just fits the excitement Andy and Dougy showed to get going with their Neko toy play time!

Dougy always is up for play, but Andy went through a period before his heart murmur and high blood pressure were discovered where he was listless and not at all kittenish or playful. Seeing him tear through the living room to capture the toy before Dougy does is proof the medicine does its job!

Long live the exciting new toy!

The boys’ current favorite toy is this Neko centipede.

When both play, the boys take turns wearing themselves out, then resting while the other brother takes over the play. That’s how our play session managed to last the hour! With just one cat playing, a play session might last 10 minutes before the kitty poops out.

You may not believe it, but Andy and Dougy sometimes have spats where one or the other ends up whimpering and running away with his tail between his legs! With both playing, the Neko toy takes all the tooth and claw action, and we all like that best of all!

    • This seems to be Andy’s week to be featured. I rarely plan these things since cats don’t operate on a basis of cooperation with plans! Maybe Dougy will get to star in a few more blogs next week. Of course, the week before, he was in everything. That’s the way things go!

  1. Awww, too bad you didn’t have a webcam recording your play session. I bet it was a hoot to watch; however, your description is vivid and provides me with a good mental picture. I am glad you all had fun.

    • I really do need to make a video of the boys playing! I haven’t made a video of them in some time, and there is a group of people on YouTube who follow them that way.

  2. I really don’t know how you do it with two I have a hard enough time with one,not to mention my daughter, she doesn’t have four legs but she can be a hand full st nine years old

    • The kitties play with each other a lot of the time or sleep. There isn’t that much extra work involved dealing with two than there was with just one before when I had Louie the ginegr cat.

  3. Our Blynken had a slight heart murmur as a kitten, but fortunately outgrew it. She is now almost two, and the middle member of “The Three Sisters”.

My father had a monkey during WWII. I put his photo with his monkey up on the cats’ page.

    • My mother, who died in January 2013 at just short of 99 years of age, was very athletic most of her life. She had a heart murmur. Apparently, they are more common that one realizes, and not necessarily a problem for those that have them. I’ll have to check out that monkey!

    • You know you do! It’s a great toy! The boys espeecially like it when I hide it under a cardboard disc that came as part of the packaging in a set of dishes. They dive onto the cardboard, reaching under it with paws, furiously grabbing for the toy. They get really stoked playing this variation of play. I think they’d be great mousers from the way I see them grabbing under things. (You can see Andy’s determination on his face in the photo!)

    • LOL! We have another expression in my family, in reference to a bodily function: “Who la-la-fa!?” I hope that doesn’t bring Christmas to mind…! :\ (When someone “la-la-fa’d”, the appropriate expression from the other kids was “Hit the dirt!” I had a strange childhood in a very amusing family!
