I remember my cat, Joey! Joey would jump into bed with me every night when I got home from work and would snuggle up under the covers and purr us both to sleep. This was back when I only had one stove in a room in the back of the house I lived in and the winter chill was very pervasive. Those were my “Poverty” days but they were made richer by my dog, “Tag” (Not a house dog by any stretch of the imagination) and by “Joey.” These were the days before I ever got married or had a family of my own or any of that kind of stuff.
The late cartoonist Bernard Kliban famously noted there is a strong similarity between meatloaves and cats. Further, there are circumstances when one can’t tell one from the other…!
Not much! They tolerate being held, but prefer to be free to do important kitty business. They are letting me hold them longer as they get older, so maybe I’ll have a couple of lap cats (fighting each other for the chance to have my lap…) when they are little old cats.
George is beginning to warm up again. And talking to me. He has a great deal to say sometimes.

George must be an interesting cat from what you’ve mentioned over time! I like “talkative” cats!

He is. He was born in our yard and even as a wee kitten he set his eyes on me. And talked. And stalked me when I was walking the dogs till I nearly tripped over him.

That must have made him irresistible! Kittens that talk a lot are too cute!

Eventually, he was irresistible. In the end, I needed him. His “grandmother” cat was hunted down by two pit bulls who tag teamed her. I loved that little cat. She was a tortie. Loving and loveable. I used to invite her in the house so the bigger cats could not take her food.

I know how those veterinarian bills can stagger…though Andy and Dougy were “free”, given to me, within the first three months of having them, I had $1400 in veterinarian expenses!
I can only imagine what an operation to fix George’s shattered bones cost, though, as with my kitties, even penny spent surely was repaid dozens of times over in love and joy he brought into your life.

He has more than made up for it in love and entertainment.

The bird talks too. Teddy, my dog, is in his 16th year. He’s moving slowly…except when he sees me with his food bowl. At one time I had three of those dogs in the house. He’s the last one. We also had two cats at the same time…not George.

They did not actually fix the broken bones. They removed them entirely. This site explains it better than I can. I was just amazed that after six weeks George was up and about. It is comparable with hip replacements but the cat (or dog) makes his own replacement.

It was an overnight. I was probably more upset than he was.
Reasonably so. We can worry for them since they have no sense of these things as best we know.
