Post 986: Happy New Year!

It’s a chilly 22°F (-2°C) this New Years Eve afternoon. I have no intention of going outside except to get the mail, and then it will be as quick a maneuver as I can make it. I am cold-blooded.

The kitties are resting nearby. Andy’s on the computer and Dougy’s at my feet. My boys like to keep me close when it’s time for kitty food!

Post 985: as the kitten’s bent…

Andy and Dougy are brothers, as most of you know if you’ve followed this blog very long. Like most brothers, they have good times together  and they have their moments. Mostly, though, the boys get along famously!

One of my favorite videos of the boys as kittens also provided the screen shot that heads this blog. See if you can find it while watching the video.

A chronic issue around the house is boxes. Specifically, will Dougy let me trash them out before he claims them?

The boys love, love, love my brother Richard! Richard is more fun than I, as this video will attest:

Of course, like all brothers, they occasionally have differences of opinion. Usually, with the boys, it has to do with who gets to sit on the lounger or some other trivial matter. They tussle, get it out of their systems, and all is well again.

Hope you enjoyed this little look back at Andy and Dougy in the early years!

Post 984: OK! OK! So we had the White Christmas, now go away!!

It snowed over night. In fact, it’s spitting a bit of snow even as I type.Dougy’s happy about it. Andy and I would just as soon it not snow.

Snow at the front door. As usual, it blocks my exit.

Dougy's right there, sniffing and tasting the white stuff. I have to close the door quickly to keep him from following his nose!

Andy and I don’t get Dougy’s enthusiasm for snow. He surely understands it is just water in another form!

Post 983: fuzz ball…

Dougy loves being brushed. Even a little brushing fills the head of the brush like this:cat fur

I have to hide the hair as soon as possible after I brush Dougy, though, because he wants to eat it. Ugh!

Post 982: on Christmas Eve, in the morning…!

Andy decided he still prefers to hang out on top of the washing machine. I guess he finally realized how easy he was to catch in the sink, come medicine time! He is my clever little cat after all.

The room heater is above the washing machine, too, so this is a toasty spot for my kitty.

Of course, this is also a great spot to keep track of all things happening in the bathroom. Andy can command the space without lifting his head if he chooses not to. And everyone knows cats are about conservation of energy!

Dougy had to make his appearance in the bathroom, too, you might guess. He can watch birdies much easier from the dining room window, but here, in the bathroom, he can watch both birdies and his brother. Conservation of energy again: Dougy is a clever little monkey himself!

Andy, Dougy and I wish you a blessed Christmas and best wishes for the coming year!

Post 981: Whither Benji…?

I tell you, that Benji is just too cute for his own britches! And Anarette now tells us he’s taken on a doggy adventure as a sailor. What a pup!

Yes, here he is! Benji continues to grow both in size and in our affection!

Follow your nose to this post to find out more about Benji the shelter pup. He’s been very busy since he and the cat brothers interviewed each other!

Andy and Dougy don’t understand this sailing business. “Why would anyone want to get that close to that much water?” Indeed! It is a conundrum.

Post 980: Let them eat cake…!

I heard a knock on my door this morning, answered it, and there was my neighbor from across the lane, two pieces of German chocolate cake in his hands. He’s the one who put up the bird feeder for the boys and other kindnesses. Of course, I “had” to accept the cake!

cake 122215Need I say this is the “before” picture? Since posting this, this piece of cake jumped into my stomach. And it was delicious!

Poszt 979: Every Doug(y) has his day…!

“Woof!” as the household in-joke goes. Andy and Dougy flip their tails in glee when I woof at them. If anything, they have good senses of irony, if not humor.

That said, today is Dougy’s day to hog all the photo spots in my blog. He cooperated well, for a change, and I think he felt obligated to cooperate or I’d tell you how he woke himself up with a startled little “meow” and couldn’t figure out if he was dreaming he was awake or awake and dreaming. Jeez! He’s just a little kitty, folks! He suffered enough that I laughed when he let out his little yelp!

Here's a dignified version of Dougy on the ottoman.

Post 978: Andy figures it out…

It took Andy almost four and a half years to figure it out, but he finally realized the bathroom sink is a perfect kitty den.

Snug and secure, Andy now likes the sink for his naps.

Stick your tongue out at me, buster....! On the plus side, capturing Andy here to give him medicine is a snap.

Of course, the top of my computer still works fine for Andy's baths, too!

I would have predicted Dougy to be the first brother to figure it out since he always hops up on the sink when I’m using the “throne”, snoops around, looks in the mirror, they hops back to the floor. Maybe the kitty looking back at him is too scary!

Post 977: Andy can’t make up his mind…

Andy had breakfast, lots of head skritching, a cheek rub, a chin scratch, and a few well-placed pats. He heard himself called “the good kitty!” Of course, of the two boys, he is the better behaved one. The good kitty.

Now what? Too early to take a morning nap but too late to start any kitty games. Dougy’s run off somewhere anyway, probably to take his morning nap. I mean, Dougy’s had his breakfast, lots of head skritching, a cheek rub, a chin scratch, and a few well-placed pats himself. What’s left to do this morning but to take a nap?

"Whaty to do? What to do?" Andy's done it all already this morning. What next?!
