I heard a knock on my door this morning, answered it, and there was my neighbor from across the lane, two pieces of German chocolate cake in his hands. He’s the one who put up the bird feeder for the boys and other kindnesses. Of course, I “had” to accept the cake!
Need I say this is the “before” picture? Since posting this, this piece of cake jumped into my stomach. And it was delicious!
You are sure lucky. Nice you enjoyed it. Best wishes.
I just had a delivery of a banana bread loaf from another friend. Apparently I am looking like an orphan to many this season. Oh, I AM an orphan! Sheez!
Some orphans are very happy. They thank God for everything. Also they are blessed in other ways.
I was fortunate in that I had my mother and father till I was in my late 60s. I technically am orphaned, then, though as a practical matter, I never experienced an orphan’s life as a child. That would be difficult.
To lose your parents only when you are above 60 means you are greatly blessed. Your parents were definitely above 80. Reason to thank God. This is not given to many.
Yes, they were 92 (Dad) and just short of 98 (Mom) when they died.
Oh! Almost a hundred. You are very lucky to have had your parents with you for so many years. May their souls rest in perfect peace! I believe every child should beat the record of their parents. Therefore, may you beat your mother’s record!
My Dad matched his father but lived longer than his mother by six years. My Mom out-lived her mother by six years. Her father died of cancer when he was 50. I can’t predict my demise, of course, with any accuracy, but I would be surprised if I lived as long as my parents because of medical issues I have.
Well. Let’s say whatever comes we are ready.
Yes, for sure. I don’t worry about such things, though. I’ll have however long I get, and I intend to enjoy each moment of that time. A positive attitude gets one through adversity and the vicissitudes of living.
Yes. Very true.
lol! Great neighbor!!! Woof!
Just got another cake from another friend. Whew! I didn’t feel hungry until now. I should stop and cut myself a piece and have a nice glass of milk with it, too!
Sounds delicious!
It was!
Mom baked a fruit cake this year. Most store bought fruitcake is a joke and sometimes a nightmare. Mom made it in November, wrapped it up tightly and refrigerated it, and basted it weekly with brandy & orange juice. The humans loved it! Woof!
Collins Street Bakery of Corsicana, TX puts out an excellent fruitcake. I didn’t like fruitcake till I tried theirs after a friend sent one to me one Christmas. That said, the brandy/orange juice treatment sounds like a wonderful way to make this maligned treat decent! I know I’d like it….!
😀 wish you were here to share some! Woof!
Me, too!
If it’s cake
I say then eat and be happy
Indeed! And I did. It was very tasty cake, too.
Mol! 😹 Why we CAN’T offend a kind neighbor, can we? Hehehe! That is the human’s FAVORITE cake and the Creature’s parents get her one every time she has a birthday!!😹
It is a special occasion cake, that’s for sure. Too rich for every day eating….!
That’s fur sure – but the human wouldn’t mind trying! 😹
I resisted eating both pieces at once, but I guarantee the second piece was gone before the sun came up again this morning! LOL!
Mol! 😹 Why of course!
I think I waited about 12 hours to eat the second piece, though I did have to get out of bed in the middle of the =night to get that second piece….! It was worth it, too!
Oh of course it was! German chocolate cake is worth it!!
I never turn it down, though I think I like Black Forest cake better since I like cherries
Oh my KATS! The human loves that one too – *licks chops*😻
February is National Cherry Month in America, and I try to have cherries every way I can during that month!
Oh my kats -so does my human! Her favorite breakfast is a Smoothie made with Greek yogurt, frozen cherries, raw honey and coconut!! Tastes better than ice cream!
Yum! Everything in it sounds good! I could live on something like that!
She purractically does! That’s her breakfast almost every morning!
A cake that can leap into a mouth all by itself. Reminds me of the Magic Pudding which was a famous Australian children’s book from about 100 years ago. http://alldownunder.com/australian-authors/norman-lindsay/magic-pudding-1c.htm
How delightful! Thanks for sharing that. I’d never heard of it before.
And you begged him to sit down, cooked a cuppa for both of you and had a little chat while eating cake?
No, though he offered me some coffee. I suppose I should have been more sociable, though I wasn’t feeling up to a visit.
Any neighbor who brings cake is a great neighbor 🙂
He’s been very thoughtful in the time he and his wife have lived there. The bad part for me is I have no idea howto reciprocate since he tends to beat me to the punch every time.
Your neighbor is a true friend .
Tanks for your very kind comment about Christmas .
Merry Christmas to you. Probably there will be also some treats for your two boys ! 🙂
In friendship
Michel
And a Merry Christmas to you and your family, too, Michel! I bet Amiens is a beautiful place this time of year and your wife must bring out the best bottles of wine from the cellar to celebrate the season! Americans can be very generous, yet they can be very narrow-minded and bigoted, too. A Christmas greetings to the President and Mrs. Obama posted on Facebook had comments that suggested people missed a day or two of church when they learned what Christmas is about and what it is to be a Christian. I was embarrassed for some of them, they were so vulgar and foul.
Oh that looks wonderful and I have to tell you if I would have been nearby, you would not have even been able to sniff that cake before it and i would have disappeared.
He did bring over two pieces, Ruth….! And I guarantee it is so rich one piece was all I could handle at once.
