I’ve told you before how Dougy ruins most photos by closing his eyes just before the flash goes off. He’s pretty cagey that way! Unfortunately, though, that means you see far fewer photos of Dougy than you do of his brother, Andy.
Here’s a selection of today’s Dougy photos. I think I caught him with his eyes kind of open in one!
Dougy poses nicely till he realizes the flash is about to go off. Then he closes his eyes.
The flash brings on refusal to pose. Dougy turns his back to me!
In low light, the camera assesses how much flash and open shutter are necessary to get a “readable” photo, then takes the picture.
I anticipate how long that takes, then try to attract Dougy’s attention so that he turns his head (with open eyes) at the right time to get a decent photo.
Oh well! What a lovely washed out shot of Dougy’s butt.
Dougy wanders off, and I say to hell with it for one more day!

He is beautiful when he chooses to be. Maybe he just doesn’t want to drive the girl cats crazy. 🙂
I am just glad not to be alone in going through all kinds of gyrations to get good shots of the cats. I will accept whatever end you can get of the boys. By the way Senator Murphy’s staie is also the home of several large gun manufacturers ( I grew up there) so his effort is even more appreciated by me.
I was very impressed with his response, and hope his good example shows the bought and paid for Congress how to respond to lobbyists who represent a very small part of public opinion. The vast majority of NRA members don’t even buy the notion that stronger gun control laws aren’t needed.

I try and try with Dougy so there are occasional nice shots of him, too.

Thanks! Getting a good shot of Dougy is kind of the Holy Grail of kitty photography around here. Andy is much easier to photograph.

uh oh, that’s where my other-half would put a halt to his arrival.
When Dougy was a cute kitten, he resisted training to be a good boy. Andy was more tractable and still is the better behaved of the two. Dougy’s comedic qualities kind of excuse his naughty boy tendencies.
Shoko is terrible for closing her eyes. Kali just turns away. They seem to know exactly when the click will be and the eyes close or the body turns. Must we give them treats all the time? Then we’d just see the top of their heads. hehe

You know I have purposely not used the flash for months now and she still closes her eyes. You’ll see pictures of Kali with her back to the camera and Shoko with her eyes closed. They look like furry rebels. haha
Dang cats! Dougy does the same thing when I get an opportunity to take photos in good light. After a few shots, he’ll stop doing it, sometimes.
On a completely different note, seeing the headline in the news on TV:
Wasn’t that Filibuster great?! He even achieved something with it! Finally a first brick out of that wall of Gun-Activitsts.
I’ll believe it when a bill is enacted as law. Frankly, I think the gutless Senators will fail to pass any bill, again. I was, however, very impressed with Senator Murphy, the one who started the filibuster. Of course, he represents the state (Connecticut) where the Sandy Hook school murders of the 20 children and six teachers and administrators happened. He spoke passionately for adequate gun control, I thought. I hope (despite my negative feeling that it won’t happen) that something finally makes it through the US Congress. It’s appalling and disturbing that not even the murder of 20 children brought about necessary change.

Why do you not use a different light source so the flash won’t be needed!
Because I try to take photos when the boys are active, which is generally before sun up. When I luck out and catch them in natural light, I generally am happier with the results
And so is Dougy. Flashlight is mean for cats – as it comes so suddenly that their eyes cannot cope with it.
I try to avoid flash, but the camera sometimes fools me as to whether there is sufficient light or not for non-flash photography. I hate flash myself. Andy tolerates it much better than either Dougy or me!
Can’t you stop your flash? I can switch it off with my Ixus.
There is a place. I’ve done it accidentally, but haven’t succeeded in finding the place in the menu where that function is controlled.
