Andy got to play Neko toy without Dougy hogging the toy today. The way it usually goes is Andy has to wait till Dougy’s tired of the play, then hope I’m not so he can get a little play in, too.
He was magnificent! Hopping on chairs, jumping in air, catching and mauling the toy like a proper little tiger!
Dougy finally stopped by, but Andy was so wound up he did the only proper thing: He turned his hunting play on his brother. Poor Dougy! He got wrestled to the ground and given a proper thrashing! He didn’t know what was coming, let me tell you. Andy let him up then and chased him into the guest bedroom.
Marc-Andre of https://katzenworld.co.uk/ posted a comment on this post, I think, that I answered and accidentally deleted instead of posting. (Thanks, WordPress for making that easy to do!) The gist of it was something about his cats and fur flying because of the bad influence of my cats. I know that isn’t anything near what he wrote, that I thought his comment was playful and fun, that I’m pissed I blew it out of the water by accident, and, if he can recall his comment and resend it to me, I will try to recreate my first response, which had something to do with fur flying across the Atlantic. Gad! In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out Marc-Andre’s fun blog, please do. I think it is one of the more entertaining cat blogs on the blogosphere!
I am totally with you on the delete thing. I have lost two posts that way in the last couple of weeks.
Frustrating, isn’t it?
after fur went flying
all seems to look well 🙂
They work through their differences fast, with fur flying! Then they are best buddies the rest of the day.
Tony destroyed all the wand toys so I will definitely replace them with Nekos. I have that little green laser toy and it’s the all time favorite in our house. I let it circle a bit and then pick it up and flash it around. They get really riled up chasing it from room to room. Glad Andy had so much fun, never though of catnip as a performance enhancing drug!
My two never responded much to laser toys. Andy always seems more intrigued by the source – the laser – than the light itself, and Dougy generally stops playing after a very short time. I think they are the only cats I’ve had or known that didn’t get very involved with the moving light. You’re lucky yours are interested in the laser light because I think cats that play with the light get a lot of healthy exercise , not to mention a chance to work through excess energy! The Neko toy mine liked the best was the Bir Bug. One of the readers of this blog suggested it, and the boys have torn through two, with a good start on number three Bir Bugs. It comes on what looks like a fishing pole that telescopes.
Because they are a bit pricey, I suggest you try one at a time till you establish your kitties like them as much as we others say our cats do.
Poor Dougy. We have one of those green laser toys like I see in the light stand- that is a fun one.
Andy seems more interested in the toy than the light, and Dougy rarely plays longer than a minute or two. Neither seems that interested in laser toys, which is unfortunate because I think they offer the cat lots of exercise and a way to wear down that excess energy. I had another one that I thought would really get their attention. Same response, Dougy played a short time, and Andy went over to the toy and tried to figure out how it worked.
Go Andy! Not that I hold either of them as a favorite…I’m too new to the game to have a favorite but I do get tired of some of the more aggressive or bigger ones hogging things…Go Andy! Maybe Dougy will think next time he bogies the toy. But oh my Andy….where did ALL that aggression come from? OOoooooo Catnip you say…..Well that explains it. ~~dru~~
Believe me when I say they both are capable of being bad kitties! It was Andy’s turn to beat up Dougy this time, but Dougy can hold his own and turn the tables.
Better ration the catnip Weggie. ~~dru~~
I suspect you are right! If the boys can’t handle it, they need to stay away from it!
MOL…we love Neko toys too. We have the mouse and another toy for it. We like the mouse the best and mom has forgotten what the other one is. Andy was sure going to have his playtime in spite of Dougy. They certainly do have their own personalities.
Shoko
And how! They also like the bumble bee one, though they are a little tired of it at the moment, and Bir Bug. That one, Bir Bug, they really work over, and we are waiting for the third one to replace the second one.
Such energy is amazing to me!
How true! I think Andy must have got a second wind after the catnip.
Will your boys be participating in Dezi’s fishing contest, portion of the Pawlympics? Purrseidon is considering it, but wants the event to be actual fishing … our beta is giving her the evil eye.
I guess not. I’m not much for contests, but I honestly was unaware of this one anyway.
Blogville Pawlympics will be Aug 5th thru Aug 21st. The schedule of events can be seen here: https://dorysbackyard.blogspot.com/p/blogville-olympics-schedule.html Fly Fishin’ will be hosted by Dezi & Raena – you can find out where to send fishing photos at https://dezizworld.com/
LOL! I call it “fishing for cats” when I bring out the wand toys, so I get it! I’ll have to see if i can come up with a suitable photo for it.
There are lots of other events, too. For instance, today, I learned that Toby et. al. will be hosting a ‘bathing event’ ( https://kittycaperz.wordpress.com/2016/06/25/caturday-art-plus-gymnastic-bathing/ ) … Purrseidon was shocked to learn this did not include water, while Mr. M was very relieved for the same reason 😉
I would guess most of us can get into that one pretty easily! Dougy is especially fun to watch bathe because he has a quirky, funny way he licks, then stares out at you like “Why are you watching me?” Andy is more methodical and less melodramatic.
Tell Purrseidon and Mr. M I was relieved, too. If there is one thing I hate doing, it’s washing a cat! (Of course, if you poll Andy and Dougy, you’ll find we are unanimous on that point!)
I figure your boys have a better chance of winning than our pair … Purr isn’t into that sort of bath & M usually avoids cameras.
Dougy does better on videos because there isn’t any flash. I probably will have to do a screen print from a video to do this one. The photo at the top of my blog is a screen print from my YoiuTube video “Kitten Fight IV”. It works pretty well!
SEE! You even know how to do videos! I need Ms. Munchkin for that.
I was a US Army motion picture photographer stationed in Germany from July 2, 1970 to November 30, 1972.
Once I got a digital camera and could do videos on it, I hopped right back into the old job! I post them and phainopepla95 on YouTube, and there are somewhere over 100 videos, the majority of Andy and Dougy, with a few of Louie the ginger cat, and even fewer of me talkling about Wegener’s granulomatosis issues.
You can do it, too!
Well, once Ms. M goes off to college, I imagine I will need to figure the camera out. Until then, it is very convenient to simply let her do it. I think she has posted of Purrseidon.
It’s easy enough to do on most digital cameras, but this is a comment by someone who has some background in how cameras work and the process of making a film story.
My primary experience is avoiding being in front of a camera …. Mr. M shares this talent 😉
That’s why one wants to carry the camera…! lol! I spent a lot of time avoiding being photographed in my time, too.
Excellent point! And a good reason to figure the thing out.
That’s right! You find that owner’s manual and become an expert now! LOL!
Perhaps after dinner … company is expected shortly.
No time limit on learning, Jeanne. You know that just having a camera in you hand and pointing it at someone is sufficient to get the reaction you want. (Clearing the room of people with cameras pointed at you….!) Then you can get back to reading the camera manual…!
In the Kuna Yala, when I was trying to drop anchor, a dugout canoe full of kids and women was in the way… my husband was hollering at me from the cockpit wondering why I was dawdling … in defense, I grabbed my camera – they fled, I dropped the anchor. THEN, he prepared to ‘set’ it by applying backward pressure and realized the canoes, kids and wares were behind him… We quickly learned to carry cameras while in the Kuna Yala!
Good one! See, you already knew how to use a camera defensively! LOL!
LOL, true, though I didn’t actually take photos.
You don’t have to if it sends the others running! Mission accomplished.
Only if I get off my backside and enter….!
Me too 😉
