People in the USA probably remember the advertisements for the Cat’s Meow toy. Man oh man! Your cat will put on his or her kitty, and eagerly play with this toy! It will change your kitty’s whole outlook on life, and probably…blah, blah, blah. So I bought one. The kitty boys played with it at first, but soon became jaded. The toy, a $19.95 purchase, plus shipping and handling (about $25 or so total) was a bust.
I put it up and occasionally brought it out again. I got the boys to play with it, though they quickly got bored again. “Oh yeah,” they told me through body language, “this stupid toy!” I’ve attached a video proof of this, below.
Then, yesterday, Dougy showed up with the action part of the toy, a thing supposed to simulate a mouse tail, I suppose. He was really into it! I tossed it. He chased it and brought it back to me! This was doggy-like behavior he’s never exhibited before. So I tossed it again. He brought it back to me again! And again! And again!
I don’t know how he got the toy part since I put it on top of the little rolltop woman’s secrétaire, but there it was, and Dougy was going ape snot over it!

The video:
And here’s Dougy playing with the toy part when I wiggled it over his head:
As for Andy, he’s still less impressed with this toy or any part of it. He may change his mind when I try it out on him when Dougy isn’t around to hog the play. We’ll see!
Barvo, Doug , you made a good selection!
I’m proud of my little kitty! He helps reduce the destruction of the environment by find a new use for an old toy!

I accidentally deleted the comment with the link to the YouTube video. I hope I can locate it with the text you put in this part of your comment.
I found it, no problem! There are many artists singing it, but I chose a Berthe Sylvia version:

And here’s a Patrick Bruel version:

Georgette Plana’s version kind of reminds me of Edith Piaf…

You are right. She is the first interpret ,before the WWII
Here’s yet another version, by Leon Raitier:

Such cuties, I bet Andy would enjoy it by himself.
I warms up slowly to toys and play, but he does just fine with Dougy out of the play or after Dougy starts to get tired of play.

That was a funny video! It’s hard to predict sometimes which toys the cats will like.
Here’s another toy that went over well NOT!

At least Andy had fun! Dougy was unimpressed. 🙂
It’s interesting how they respond to toys. Andy usually isn’t enthusiastic at first, though Dougy generally is up for fun anytime.
hahaha…the same happens here. Everyone was saying how their cat just adored *The Cat’s Meow* so I decided this has got to be the cat’s meow and bought one for them. Kali ran away and hid and it took much coaxing to get her out….several days. Shoko was impressed at first but the thrill wore off quickly. I put it away and pull it out in the middle of winter when they get bored. It’s good for a couple of days and then it goes away again. This toy was all hype and no action.
Andy got really excited with it first day, and quickly learned that the little tail thingy could be captured more easily by plopping down by the toy and waiting for it to come by. Then he wouldn’t let it go, the gears ground, the toy ceased to be of interest. Dougy puicked up on that trick first, however.
Nodding in wry agreement. And, it costs a heck of a lot more in Australia!
Oh dear! Of course, if that’s converted to the equivalent Australian dollars, the number will be more. I just did a conversion : USD25 = AusD 32.73. Is it more than that?
Yes, I paid more than that! Sigh. Think of all the cat food I could have bought. 🙂
Gad! I’m sorry about that. Just as you note, it could have been money better spent on our kitties. I was really pleased that Dougy decided to try playing with the action part. You know, the very expensive part that the kitty boys decided to play with finally!
Did you see this on Facebook? It’s so darn true.

LOL! Yeah, I did, and I thought exactly what you did! So like a cat!
Another who got sucked in by the advertising. Minx played with it for a few days and I thought “Hah, a winner”. Immediately she stopped playing with it. Maybe I’ll pull that tail bit off and see if it excites her.
It certainly got Dougy riled up! The only disadvantage is your hand is closer to the kitty claws and mouth, and he did nail me once by lunging at the tail thingy! Just a safety note if you are dealing with kitty claws!
It looks like the cats are playing with you!
Actually, I am trained (by them) to stop everything and play with them. LOL!
And you have fun too.
You know it!
How are you doing? I have been out of the loop for awhile with having radiation therapy. And had issues with my blog.
I’m doing fine, thank you! I’m into the routine of dialysis, and gaining strength each day, and feel fine! I am especially glad I reached the spot where I don’t have the port, the fistula is in full use, and I can actually take regular showers or baths now. Before, I had to be very careful not to get the port wet, which made showers next to impossible. I never feel clean after a tub bath or the mostly sponge baths the port required.
I hope the radiation treatments are going well for you, that you are getting better, Susan. I know (from my sister’s experience and that of others), that there are often side effects with radiation therapy that make it miserable for the patient….
I am so glad that you are making progress. I have a port, but it is a pretty sturdy one. And I can get it wet.
Yes, I can’t wait to get rid of the radiation therapy. Every so often the smell of sulfur overcomes me but it could be my imagination. I have one more week of it. It has been the therapy that never ends…
I was glad to hear from you.
Think he givers you a lot of joy.
Yes, he does! So does Andy. The kitty brothers are fun, funny, and a great way to start my day.
I bought that for my cat and she was terrified of it, haha!
My two got along with it but another toy I bought for them (that they both never played with…!) was a ball with a furry tail on it. Battery powered, it randomly rolled around on the floor, simulating a plastic ball with a furry tail on it. LOL! They ran from the room and still run away just to see the dang thing!
You know, it might be interesting to do a blog post on all the wonderful toys and cat things that our cats refused to play with or use. I once bought a really cut cat bed shaped like a fish. The kitties were supposed to go in it and sleep, of course, but they kitty brothers wouldn’t have anything to do with it. I’ve seen the same cat bed in other people’s blogs and videos, and their cats actually used it.
