Post 1192: Dougy discovers the open door…

The unusually warm weather we’re having here means I can open the door and let in some fresh air. That presents an opportunity for my snoopy kitty, Dougy!

Dougy knows there are wonderful scents and noises outside the door.102816 dougy at door.jpg

Dougy approaches cautiously. A strange scent? Because it’s dark outside?102816 dougy approaches door.jpg

Oh well, he can still sniff around! 102816 dougy sniffs at door.jpg

Ordinarily, this would be the scene at the door… This was back in September.92516-andy-and-dougy-wait-for-me

Andy never checked the scene at the door out, and Dougy soon lost interest. I guess no neighbor cats, bunnies, or other wildlife were out there tonight.

  1. The nighttime world is full of interesting sounds and scents, not to mention critters wandering by! We had a large buck expire in the back yard a few nights ago. We called the Department of Fish and Wildlife that morning. No bullet wounds and the animal was far away from the road, and appeared to have wandered out of the woods. They told us sometimes bucks have internal injuries after fighting with each other. No one with a backhoe was available, so a large hole was dug by hand. I hit water not far down because of all the rain, so the buck has a large mound over him right now in that pit. Not a nighttime event I would want to have happen again! I wonder if any of the cats saw it happen out the window.

  2. The place I rent has a storage space underneath it. My cat loves it when I unlock the door so she can gorge on all the unfamiliar smells. The owner used to make Italian salami there, and I think there are ghosts of mice past.

  3. I just love that last shot of the little face peeking out the door! All too soon open doors and windows will not be an option.
