We’re halfway through Dougy’s eye treatments for conjunctivitis. He hates it, of course, and I have to use the kitty burrito technique (wrapping him in a towel) to get the job done. I’m glad I don’t have to do this pretty much forever like I do with Andy and his high blood pressure issue! Dougy may be a little cat, but he can put up a fight, as my leg verifies!
=(^+^)=
Dougy wasn’t happy that I gave him eye drops first thing this morning.
On the other hand, it seems to be helping with the conjunctivitis (before and after).
Andy got his medicine right off this morning, too, but he’s been hiding in the shadows from me since!
The kitty burrito method wasn’t used at first, as my leg wounds show! (Never medicate a cat while wearing shorts! LOL!)
Today is another big day for the boys and me, I fear. The guy working on the fire alarm is showing up first thing this morning and today is the boys’ day at the groomer. Catching them to put them in the carrier should be interesting. Once you’ve caught them for the day, they are (reasonably) a bit more wary than usual. The next photos you see of them will be of neatly trimmed kitties!
Well written blogpost
Thank you! I try to make my posts interesting and fun for my readers!
Nubia gets that with her eyes sometimes. The vet thinks it’s because she bumps her head in the litter with her three paws burying technique.
That makes sense! Is it any easier putting eye drops in her eyes than if she had four legs? Kitties have amazing strength when they don’t want to comply with our wishes!
It’s worse! She can snake out of any grip LOL
Indeed! Dougy is fairly clever that way, but I eventually get him wrapped in the towel.
Only way to do it haha
Absolutely! Andy’s become used to getting his medicine, but Dougy’s still a relative “virgin” that way. He also hates to be held on his back, you know, like you’d hold a baby cradled in the crook of your arm. That just adds to the drama for him. For eye drops, there just isn’t a better position, so the poor dear just has to be swaddled.
Glad they are helping. Sorry about your leg.
One of the hazards of having cats with claws…! They never use them in anger, being mild kitties, but they accidentally get me when trying to avoid medicine or being held too long.
Shorts! Medicating a cat in shorts! You’re a braver man than I! 🙂
I tend to do it when I catch the cat, so whatever I’m wearing at the time is what I’m wearing when I medicate the cat. I rarely have long-legged pants or sweats on while at home, so….! I don’t hold the kitties responsible.
Nasty scratch! Hope the alarm fix lasts for a while!
Me, too! The scratch looks worse than it is. Neosporin is a wonderful thing when you have cats!
I would say that all of this they working would make him sleepy. But it probably not.
I don’t know. Cats can find more than enough reasons to conk out for a cat nap!
Wise creatures. The world would be a lot better if we all took cat naps a couple of times a day.
I agree totally! I know I fell like a nap oftentimes. When I pay attention to my body, take the nap, I wake up feeling much better.
I’m surprised that you keep them clipped in the winter. Is this because they don’t go outside or is it more of a grooming issue?
It’s a combination of the two. I started getting them trimmed in the first place because whole bowl movements would get caught in the butt fur, requiring hand manipulation of the turd, while holding a very unhappy kitty half in water. That was easy enough when they were kittens, but that stage, as you know, is pretty short. Then, they started getting matted hair behind their ears and legs, even though I thought I was grooming them adequately with brushing. Since I started taking them to the groomer, these two problems don’t occur unless we go more than two months between sessions. (The schedule is made in November each year for the whole year, and sometimes there is more than two months, but less than three, between sessions.)
Mr. M has long silky fur, and we had similar issues, but he wasn’t a baby when he moved in and had been dealing with them on his own for years…. He gets clipped ‘under the tail’ plus individual mats gets clipped off …. quite a bit easier to convince him to tolerate this than electric clippers!
I have professional clippers (electric) that don’t make such a racket as most, but I’ve never felt confident enough to try them on much more than occasional mats! Even then, other methods work as well. I have a sewer’s seam ripper that works well, though you have to be very careful to make sure the point’s pointing away from the cat or you could stab him! (Need I mention I use this as the very last resort?)
We use small cuticle scissors… not too labor-intensive, since we’re only trimming out a small mat here or there. Fortunately, M loves to be brushed.
The boys’ groomer says Andy likes to be brushed there. Big surprise to me! What he doesn’t like is being air-dried.
Mr. M gets all grumpy when he realizes it is bath day, but Purrseidon goes out and willfully rolls in the dirt because she knows she’ll get extra baths.
There is simply no accounting for that cat.
Incredible! Well, maybe not since cats have their distinct personalities!
My kitties only get bathed when they go to the groomers since I am chicken. They were a handful as kittens, and I doubt I’m up to the task now that they are adults!
They get baths once a week, but Purr tries to get 2-3 per day. That cat should have been born a frog or fish or something.
LOL! Catfish, of course!
Good one!
=(^+^)=
Poor boys! I hope they’ll get some extra love for all they have to endure 🙂
And I sincerely hope you’ll not need an ambulance after putting them into their carriers.
LOL! I hope not, too! Both have claws and excellent teeth.
I know Andy and Dougy will be happy to be home and left alone after the groomers, but they seem to be more active after all the hair’s trimmed.
