Post 1216: update on Dougy’s eye…

We’re halfway through Dougy’s eye treatments for conjunctivitis. He hates it, of course, and I have to use the kitty burrito technique (wrapping him in a towel) to get the job done. I’m glad I don’t have to do this pretty much forever like I do with Andy and his high blood pressure issue! Dougy may be a little cat, but he can put up a fight, as my leg verifies!

=(^+^)=

Dougy wasn’t happy that I gave him eye drops first thing this morning.112116-dougy-1

On the other hand, it seems to be helping with the conjunctivitis (before and after).

Andy got his medicine right off this morning, too, but he’s been hiding in the shadows from me since!112116-andy

The kitty burrito method wasn’t used at first, as my leg wounds show! (Never medicate a cat while wearing shorts! LOL!)112116-dougs-wounds

Today is another big day for the boys and me, I fear. The guy working on the fire alarm is showing up first thing this morning and today is the boys’ day at the groomer. Catching them to put them in the carrier should be interesting. Once you’ve caught them for the day, they are (reasonably) a bit more wary than usual. The next photos you see of them will be of neatly trimmed kitties!

    • One of the hazards of having cats with claws…! They never use them in anger, being mild kitties, but they accidentally get me when trying to avoid medicine or being held too long.

    • I tend to do it when I catch the cat, so whatever I’m wearing at the time is what I’m wearing when I medicate the cat. I rarely have long-legged pants or sweats on while at home, so….! I don’t hold the kitties responsible.

    • It’s a combination of the two. I started getting them trimmed in the first place because whole bowl movements would get caught in the butt fur, requiring hand manipulation of the turd, while holding a very unhappy kitty half in water. That was easy enough when they were kittens, but that stage, as you know, is pretty short. Then, they started getting matted hair behind their ears and legs, even though I thought I was grooming them adequately with brushing. Since I started taking them to the groomer, these two problems don’t occur unless we go more than two months between sessions. (The schedule is made in November each year for the whole year, and sometimes there is more than two months, but less than three, between sessions.)

      • Mr. M has long silky fur, and we had similar issues, but he wasn’t a baby when he moved in and had been dealing with them on his own for years…. He gets clipped ‘under the tail’ plus individual mats gets clipped off …. quite a bit easier to convince him to tolerate this than electric clippers!

  1. Poor boys! I hope they’ll get some extra love for all they have to endure 🙂

And I sincerely hope you’ll not need an ambulance after putting them into their carriers.

    • LOL! I hope not, too! Both have claws and excellent teeth.

I know Andy and Dougy will be happy to be home and left alone after the groomers, but they seem to be more active after all the hair’s trimmed.
