I amazed myself (even) by the speed with which I captured Andy and Dougy to take them to the groomer. Dougy complained, of course, because he always does. We no sooner arrived than Peggy drove up and opened the shop. Great timing!
I let Peggy and Athena (who cuts the boys’ hair) know Dougy had conjunctivitis in his left eye so they knew Dougy might be a bit grumpy because of it.
When I picked the kitties up, I learned Andy is OK with every part of the process but the hair drier, that he actually likes to be brushed. The little poop! He hates it when I brush him with the exact same brush they use at the groomer’s! I know I use the same brush because they recommended the same brush they use at the shop on cats, which was on display at the shop in their pet supply display!
Dougy, on the other hand, got bored and grumpy before Athena could finish dealing with some hair on his legs. She (wisely) quit while he was still in a good enough mood not to become naughty. I agreed that that was a smart move on her part, that that’s why she’s so good at her job!

When I opened the carrier at home, the kitty boys ran to get a drink (Andy) and to use the litter box (Dougy).
Then Andy went to use the other litter box in the bathroom and Dougy watched him leave the room.
Of course, after just getting groomed, Andy had to put his personal spit on the subject!
Did you notice the rainbow-colored string in the second photo? That’s where Andy dragged it to try to get Dougy to come play their strange little game. Andy yowled the challenge, but Dougy wasn’t in the mood to play, I guess.

Oops! I managed to post the top two photos out of chronological order! I’m sure many of you will notice the blue carrier is missing from its place in the second photo, though in the first one it is next to the secretaire, where it usually is when not in use. (The grey towel is to give kitties a comfortable place to roost.)
It’s hard taking the cats out in cold weather. They don’t like going to the vet’s office as it is, and then the cold weather on top of it.
Hope Dougy’s eye is feeling better.
It is, and Dougy protests being in the carrier no matter what the temperature is outside. I can tell you that I am really pleased to have the VW Sportwagen now because it truly is much easier to load and unload the carrier from the back of a wagon than it was from the backseat of my Chevy Impala. I loved that Impala, but it was impractical for anything like cat transport of bring groceries home.
A great grooming job for Thanksgiving. Dougy’s eye is still bad I guess. It always seems to be something with these kitties of ours. Don’t envy you going to the vet’s tomorrow. I guess our annual visit is coming up in a couple of months. I think it’s the middle of January when it’s cold as he….ck.

I printed out the photo I used in the post about his eye so his veterinarian can see how it looked at the start. He hasn’t seen it yet since he was gone the day I took Dougy in. p.s. The trip to Dr. Y. was quick (which Dougy liked) and his doctor was pleased with the eye. I forgot my smart phone, so had to wait till i got home to get photos. (I like to take photos of the boys at the veterinarian’s for some reason. I guess because it’s a different back ground than usual in this blog!)
Thank goodness Dougy’s eye is getting better. It’s a worry when there is something wrong…specially if they get cranky. Did the vet say how much longer you will have to keep giving him meds? I try to get the girl’s visit to the vet but I sometimes forget the camera and folk just have to take my word for it. The trip to the vet is not really that bad in January cause the girls go to the garage and then into the car. We park right out front of the vet’s door and walk in. So they don’t get that cold.
Dougy had his last eye drops last night. I still need to keep a watch on it in case it gets worse, but the initial word from Dr. Y., the kitty boys’ veterinarian, is that the eye looks good, though it is still healing.
I break the rules and drive up on the grass in front of my apartment so they don’t have to spend more than a moment in the cold. My car warms up fairly fast, so they only have a short time in the cold at the veterinarian’s, too, where there is just a short walk from my car to the door.
Maybe it was just a little too much with a sick eye and a trip to the groomer for Dougy to want to play but I like to think Andy was trying to cheer him up.
I think you are right! Cats like their routines, and that was very disruptive of his. Andy might comfort his brother, but mostly I think he would stick his tongue out at Dougy and say (in Cattinese…!) “Nyah! Nyah!”

…. Next month, all 3 furballs need to make their annual pilgrimage to the vet’s … I am NOT looking forward to such chauffeur duty.

Saphera is the WORST one … she hates anything new, totally distrusts strangers, and weighs close to 100# ….
Mr. M is the quietest cat, but you would not believe how vocal the old fellow gets when he recognizes the vet’s parking lot. Purr sulks.
They know, don’t they!? It’s hard to slip one by our fur buddies after the first time.
How is Dougy’s eye coming along?
I think it looks a lot better compared with the photo of the day before I took him in. He has an appointment for tomorrow with his regular veterinarian (who is excellent!), and we’ll see what he has to say and recommend. I’ll post an update, of course!
