I sometimes confuse Andy for Dougy and vice versa. The following suggestion by elizabetcetera made me think:
“Hey, I have an idea for a post for you. It would be contest with photos of Dougy and Andy having us guess who is who. The winner could get a mention of their blog or whatever small prize you could dream up. I have no idea how to tell these brothers apart!!!”
Yeah! Great idea and I’m doing it! The prize for the first person to correctly identify all photos of the kitty boys side by side and by themselves is this set of 11 ounce/ .33 liter coffee mugs/beakers:
There is no second, third, fourth or whatever prize since I’m a retiree and the two mugs plus postage to the winner will pretty much eat up my contest budget!
- WHO IS ELIGIBLE ~ Anyone reading this blog, including all of my international friends. (I post from the USA, if you are unaware.)
- HOW LONG WILL THE CONTEST LAST ~ Till I get the first entry with all correct answers or 17 March, whichever comes first.
- WHAT DOES THE CONTEST INVOLVE~ The contest involves identifying Andy and Dougy in photos. There are sixteen images of Andy and fourteen of Dougy. For the sake of simplicity, just identify all the Andy’s in the photos. Obviously, if it isn’t Andy, it’s Dougy!
- WHAT IS THE CONTEST FORMAT ~ Each image is numbered. In the instance of photos with both kitty boys, there is a number and a description of which kitty it relates to. Please write down the numbers, in numeric order, for all the Andy images only, and email your answers to me.
- HOW DO I IDENTIFY MY EMAIL CONTEST ENTRY ~ On the subject line of your email entry type MUGS CONTEST so I don’t accidentally delete it, unread. (I get a lot of emails I delete unread, and I’m sure you do, too!)
- WHERE TO SEND ENTRIES ~ weggieboy@gmail.com Please give me the name of your blog if you post on the blogosphere. I want to do a short review of each blogger’s blog of those who enter this contest since there is only one prize of mugs for the winner. If you don’t blog, no problem, just give me your name if you’d like to be mentioned as an entrant.
- HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU ENTER ~ One time, please, and have fun!
I ordered the mugs and they just arrived. I have the same ones for personal use, and they are hefty, fun to use, and representative of the personalities of Andy and Dougy. I think you will enjoy them, too, if you are the winner!
I’ll notify you by email if you win so you can email your mailing address back so I can post your prize to you. (emails are dated and have a time stamp, so I will open them in the order they come in.)
Oh, yeah! And I will mention your blog, winner or not, if you want the mention! Most likely, if you read my blog, I read yours, and I guarantee you probably post clever, interesting, fun, thoughtful, creative, or provocative posts others will find interesting, too. I have interesting bloggers following me!
Unless there are a huge number of entries, I will try to give each blog address a short review. If there are a huge number of entries, I will still try to do short reviews of each blog, only over more than one post.
=(^+^)=
So here are the contest kitty photos!
All of these photos have appeared in earlier posts. Some you can guess if/because you are familiar with the kitty boys’ personalities. You should end up with 16 A’s and 14 D’s….

Nr. 25 (Andy – in back); Nr. 26 (Dougy – foreground)
Nr. 30 (Andy)
I have no idea but I am sure enjoying their photos.
It’s been awhile since you’ve been on WordPress, so, unless you’ve followed them on Facebook (at Doug G. Thomas), you’ve missed a lot!
Gorgeous cats. The way to tell them apart is to drop paint (it doesn’t have to be much) on one of them. Or–well, I don’t know how they’d feel about this, but there’s always nail polish.
In the flesh, they are easily told apart by eye color, head shape, how they behave.
A fantastic collection of your sweethearts
Thanks! I almost never photograph anything but cats, if you look at my files….
Pingback: Post 1340: And the winner of the Andy and Dougy mugs is… | weggieboy's blog
This is frustrating but I keep coming back. I think #1 & #2 are Andy and #5 is Dougy but I’ll just have to wait until tomorrow cuz I’ve changed my mind again about these picks. It is easier in person, probably a breeze but I’m just stymied. Great Fun though Doug and I can always pick you out. ~~dru~~
Actually,it can be confusing in person as well, as today’s post shows. I swore Dougy stayed on the recliner instead of Andy.
Haha no way I can do that 🙂 I was asking myself this question many times when reading your blogs 🙂
I try to answer the question in my texts since it is hard to do.
Sometimes I think I know the difference, but the next photograph proves me wrong 🙂 May be in real life it is easier. Anyway, it is a difficult challenge and the winner deserves all the rewards 🙂
One complication is how light (or lack of it) alters things like eye color, the single easiest way to tell them apart.
Oh, that’s a hint 🙂 I was paying attention to their fur and shape, not the eyes 🙂
Even then, their eye color doesn’t always show that well in photos.
We will see who wins 🙂
Tomorrow will be the day! An entries received today are still within the contest window.
So it is today. Rushing to your blog to find out 🙂
I forgot to take into account I was making the announcement on my birthday, March 22nd. dealing with the birthday business is time consuming. Nonetheless, I’ll announce the winner, and work on the rest of it starting on the 23rd!
Happy Birthday! Wishing you all the best!

I look forward to your email! Good luck!
We have been reading your blog a long time and still are befuddled by your two black warriors. I will however guess.
Jean, Shoko and Kali
It is tricky enough, but I think you will start to see which is which when you check your answers against the correct ones! Thanks for your entry, but more than that, thanks for stopping by and supporting this blog, Jeanne! I’ve enjoyed yours for some time as well. Always something fun or informative in your blog! (Of course, the stars of your blog are your celebrity kitties, Shoko and Kali. You know, of course, that my kitty boys were born on Canada Day 2011…! Three days later, they could have been Yankee Doodle Dandy Kitties, born on the 4th of July, but Canada Day kitties is pretty “kool”, too!))
I am going to email you soon , I have 8 more photos to figure out. This is a fun contest 🙂
I’ll email you the correct answers back when you do submit your answers…. Two people have submitted answers so far, and the challenge to identify hem all correctly still stands! It’s harder than I thought. The winner may end up being the person who identifies the most correctly first. I have the time stamp on each email to sort out the received order to help in that matter!
I would like to play but since I came up with the idea I don’t want to cheat anyone of this experience. Those mugs are cute though! Those mugs themselves could lending a big clue as to who is who! Good to know they are still available to losers! Ha ha! I wonder who will be brave enough to sort those Persian moggies out?!?!!
I think you should take a chance on it. If you were to win, I think it would be fair to have a second winner (I’d order a second set of mugs in that case….) from others who enter to make it fair, so don’t worry about “cheating”! If the entries received so far, the best one got 14 of 16 correct. It may turn out that the winner is the one who gets the most correct first instead of who gets them all right. We’ll see!
What a fun idea!! I love your kitties so much!!
I could never have such a contest since Purrseidon and Mr. M are very easy to tell apart.
Your blog is full of fun and facts that more than make up for that! Of course, there are your books, too! (Incidentally, I had problems downloading the ebook. Is the first one in the trilogy in print form? I was going to order the three, then do a review like I’d agreed to do.)
Yes, the trilogy is in print format, though individually, not as a box set. The first one is Star Bridge.
OK, that was my concern. I looked for it in Amazon, and that was where I got the idea that the first one was an ebook only. I’m checking it again as soon as I answer all my comments. I believe in supporting my fellow bloggers!
The only title that is only available in ebook is Latitudes & Cattitudes, which is 3 chapters long & free. I wrote it to give away. It introduces Xander de Hunter before he becomes Catamondo’s first Sea Purrtector … IIMHO, it is preferable to allow readers to meet Xander and see if they like experiencing the story from a cat’s perspective.
I looked, but didn’t find the print form. I think I would enjoy it since I do like sci-fi. I’ll look again, by title instead of by your name.
OK, I ordered the trilogy, by single book, and applied some earned point, so brought my cost down to a little more than $20 or less than half price. Thanks for the guidance on how to go about this, Jeanne. I’m behind on my reading, but I am sure this is one I will enjoy enough that I can see me slipping it in before all but one other I promised to read for another friend!
I look forward to hearing what you think of the books.
And I look forward to reading them!
I hope to review the whole trilogy since, well, they are a trilogy!
I look forward to seeing what you think of the books.
It my take me awhile to get through them all, so I think I’ll just start one the first book, give you my review and work through the whole, step by step!
That is the way I would do it. In fact, I once reviewed a box set, but did the reviews one by one.
I appreciate your agreement! I am really slowed down right now by the dialysis. Though I could read there, there is some limit put on my left arm because the fistula they place the needles in are on that side. Holding a book one-handed and reading it is a complex dance! (On top of it, the right arm has a blood pressure cuff on it the whole time that goes off on a regular schedule. One can’t move during that time.)
Does NOT sound like it’s much fun! Wish there was a better way.
Of he alternatives, this one is the one I am most comfortable with. I suppose a transplant would be the best way to go if I didn’r have a an aversion to having foreign tissue inside my body. (And spending the rest of my life on serious drugs.
Two things I detest are drugs and surgery…. things need to be mighty bad for me to agree to either, so I completely understand your choice. Still, one would think there should be a better alternative… I shall pray on this.
Drugs I avoid as much as possible, especially pain medications. Fortunately, I have a high tolerance for pain, if a low tolerance for opioids: when I had the surgery to create the dialysis fistula, my surgeon gave me a prescription for OxyContin for pain relief. I did fill it, thanks to my tolerance for pain! Anyway, surgery itself doesn’t bother me, though I haven’t even had anything as invasive as a kidney transplant, thanks to the development of laparoscopic surgery. Kidney transplant surgery is, as you can imagine, very invasive.
I’ve had a couple surgeries, but never needed to stay in the hospital for more than one night … (Thank goodness & knock on wood!) However, we all get older and that seems to mean more health issues.
As they say, getting older is not for the faint of heart.
That’s a fact!
I believe I know most of them, Doug. So I’m going to let someone else win! It’s only fair.
I don’t know…you are one of the earliest follows of this kitty blog, and a Nr. 1 Fan. Do what you feel is right, though I think I made it hard enough by including some photos that aren’t obvious that even an early Follow might have a time getting it right!
I noticed that!! You’re as tricky as the boys are!! 🙂
Remember: You have a fifty-fifty chance of guessing any image correctly, and even a better one for those where you can see the kitties clearly….
What a GREAT idea but one that is so hard, I’m not even going to attempt. I rely on their “daddy” to tell me which is which. I can see subtle differences but again, I forget which is which. If no one comes up with the correct answer by the deadline, maybe you should publish one duo photo with the correct answers as a key.
I admit when I first started reading I attempted to memorize the differences but my brain is mush from too much catnip and kitty litter. This will be fun to follow. ~~dru~~
Check out other posts to get a good look at photos identified as Andy or Dougy. Actually, get a good look at Andy, then you should be able to sort through the photos for just Andy. Where they are in the photos is a clue, too, since the kitty boys have their favorite spots. Go ahead and enter. You might surprise yourself!
The boys are hard to tell apart!
It’s fair to go back though earlier posts where the photos originally appeared….
This is so exciting. I want those mugs LOL.
I look forward to your entry, then! Good luck! I don’t think it will be too hard for anyone who reads the blog regularly since some of the photos can be identified mostly by where the kitty boys are or by their faces. Of course, it is fair to go back though of posts to get clues or see the actual photographs identified. (The mugs are also available through Zazzle, but it would be more fun to win them. I agree on that)
Wow, I have NO clue. Good luck to all the entrants. 🙂 (Fun idea)
Take a guess. I know we haven’t been reading each other’s blogs long, so you are at a disadvantage. On the other hand, send an entry and I will do a short review of your blog, which is one others with pets will find as fun as I do!
aw, thanks. I will maybe do some wild guesses. just don’t expect much. 50-50 chance anyhow. 🙂
If you recognize just the Andy photos or just the Dougy photos (of which there are only 14, compared with 16 Andy’s), you could just surprise yourself and get more right than not! It looks like the winner may not be who got them all right, but who gets the most correct first! Give it a try, Amy. Who knows? You might do better than you think!
