These days poor Dougy hides in the dark. He hates dematting! It hurts! He protests, but it has to be done. I try to minimize the time spent each day dealing with his mats because I feel bad when I fail to remove the mats without hurting poor Dougy.
The torture tool, the upset “victim”, and the output! Part of the problem is Dougy loves to be brushed, but he always rolls over on his right side a short time after I begin.
Guess which side has no mats. Yes, the left side, the one that gets brushed the most!
I have to find a way to brush Dougy’s right side more so the mats he hates having combed out don’t form. At this point, I think I’ll have to start holding him on my lap to brush the right side of his body.
Long-haired cats are beautiful, but they have to have their regular grooming! And Dougy’s undercoat is especially thick….
What do you keep the fur for? If you collect enough,you could have it made into a kitty blanket!
I had a suggestion from this friend in Finland (check the blog out) that I put it out for birds to use in their nests. I like the irony! That’s what I think I’ll do with it. (Andy and Dougy don’t have to know….!)

Woe, that’s a lot of hair. Ms Zulu has the same problem. Benji is easy. He doesn’t have long fur or an undercoat. His problem is insects. He doesn’t have any protective layers. Unfortunately, summers in Florida bring insects. Luckily we can stay inside or on a screened in porch.
Sounds like what my friend in Maine deals with! She, too, has a screened in porch so she can enjoy the fresh air without the no-see-ums and mosquitos. Here, early morning is mosquito time, but it isn’t bad after the sun warms things up. Regardless, as you know, Andy and Dougy are inside kitties. There are mosquito-borne diseases known to occur in this county, so they and I can do without exposure! It would be nice to have a screened-in area, though, to enjoy that early morning cool air!
No cool dry air in the summer for us, not even in the morning 🙂 .
I remember how miserable I was in Charleston, SC in May. I understand why the aristocrats in historic times moved in from the coast in the hot season!
I just move inside in the summer and soak up vit D in the morning 🙂
I actually have a Vitamin D pill I have to take since dialysis wipes out such things~ Good thing because I can’t maintain my vampire complexion if I get sun. LOL!

Poor Dougy and poor Doug! I am lucky in that neither Lucio nor Wynken, the two long-haired cats, tend to form mats. Willow, our short-haired but thick-coated calico cat, does form mats, and she hates to be brushed. I think her problem is her age now, at “20ish” she doesn’t really groom much anymore, and I have to fill that role.
Oh dear! The kitty boys will (hopefully) be 20 sometime and not grooming as much, and I fear I will be pretty much the same. I think we will have to get lion cuts for sure then!

It’s just the start… The shedding season has hit and hit hard, with tufts of kitty fur everywhere. And I mean everywhere! Vacuuming helps…for a few minutes.

But she dislikes it and she wins … because she can make noise. Incredible.

The mats hide well out of sight (and reach!), so his appearance is pretty much the usual. Dougy looks especially pretty right now, though I know he has lots of mats to work out. The only “good” news is I’ve combed them enough that they are tiny mats now, something that I actually can tug on in many instances, and the mats pull off without any “discussion” from Dougy!
You could make a jumper out of cat fur 😉
If Dougy hates to have the mats removed, maybe he’s more in for a shave. Just tell him to imagine he’s a sheep. =^.^=
It would be exceptionally warm, I bet, though I’d have to avoid friends with allergies. LOL! (Of course, the allergens would be washed out before the knitting, I’m sure.)

LOL! Yeh, we all are a bit “fuzzy”! Unlike my “partners”, I never poop or vomit on the carpet (they occasionally have accidents…) or shed more than a hair or two

They do look very nice after being brushed. Cats, though, think they need to lick themselves after being groomed to make things look the way they like to look, and that musses up their hair! It must be very frustrating to take long-haired cats to cat shows knowing they won’t leave their hair alone after being groomed.
My cat does that too, but I don’t need to groom him that often because, he’s a shorthair.
It used to be harder to vacuum short-haired cat hair shed by the late Louie the ginger tabby cat than it is to vacuum Andy and Dougy’s hair.
I thought you were just combing them; now you’re vacuuming them??? Greedy cats!
No, I comb and brush them, and vacuum the carpet, which gets everything I don’t get first hand off the cats!

Oh misery ! It is tough on both of you. But he would be far more miserable if he was not dematted.
It interferes with movement if allowed to get out of hand, and it must be uncomfortable having them under the legs especially. right now, shedding season, I can vacuum today, and wake up tomorrow with big clumps of hair all over the place!

I can’t believe how much hair they can shed, especially Dougy. No matter how often or much I brush them, tjhey still have more to shed – or mat!
Because I had to decide between getting dialysis or taking the kitty boys to the groomer for their appointment last month, their longer hair now tends to mat more.
I’m working on changing the appointment for the rest of the year to days that aren’t in conflict with my new dialysis schedule.
I will probably have to take them in on different days instead of both at the same time on the same day.
While it will be less convenient for me in one sense, it will be better in that I only have to catch one cat per trip!
Shave them to stop this problem, LoL XD!
As you may remember, they didn’t get their regular visit to the groomer in late May, and that ‘s exactly why I have the problem now. It was either dialysis or die, but have groomed kitties, not a very good choice for me!
