Dougy is a bit upset with me for combing out mats on his legs. He doesn’t even perk up when I say “Woof! Woof!” to him, the kitty boys’ and my “in joke”. (“Everyone knows we are kitty boys,” they meow back! “Aw, you make us ‘meow’ when you ‘woof’ at us!”)
So I poke the shaft end of the feather into his ruff. Neither he nor Andy can resist that end of the feather! RAWR! I think it’s a favorite because they can snag it more easily than the other end, and it has a satisfying crunch when a kitty bites on it!
That’s the spirit, Dougy! Get your kitty on! All’s well in Kittylandia again, the dematting ‘incident’ forgiven, maybe forgotten!
Now, where’s that other little rascal? He can use a dematting, too. “AN-DDDDDDY…! Here, boy! I have a big surprise for you!” (Where is that kitty boy…?)
The chase is on.
Willow is the only one of our cats who really hates being brushed. She is getting better at it, but she can form mats.
Andy is the same. Dougy handles it better than Andy, but Andy forms mats even though his undercoat isn’t so dense.
Glad all is forgiven 🙂
Yeah! Cats have their unpleasant ways of letting you know they are upset!
For now! As hot as it is, tempers flare, even mild Persian kitty tempers!
Dematting would be no fun for the boys. The girls have short furs and don’t mat but occasionally get burrs and birch pods stuck to them. This is challenging to them and me.

Ugh! I can only imagine how unpleasant that is for all since I’ve had personal encounters with burrs.
Well now Dougy it would have been much easier for you to have gone to the groomer. Looking good adorable kitty boy.
While he looks really pretty with longer hair, it comes with a price he may not enjoy. I feel bad about that, but…!
he looks like a ball at the first pic.
LOL! Yes, he does!
Dematting must be a big test of your relationships with the boys !
Though the kitty boys are very mild cats, they do have their limits! I hope I get through the dematting without creating scaredy cats.
Good luck !
Thanks! I’m hoping I can get away with brushing the mats out more than trimming them out. I think both kitty boys will look spectacular with Persian-length hair, but only if they aren’t having to deal with mats. The more they are combed with the dematting brush, the less it will (and has)take to loosen up mats and comb them out.
years ago I had a friend with a Birman cat. He liked hunting and roaming the big outdoors, and required much brushing at the end of the day. (He came and went through his cat door while she was at work). Fortunately he did not mind being brushed but it was a lot of work.
My two like brushing until I hit a mat. I try to slowly detangle and comb out mats, but many times they are resistant to gentle brushing.
