Dougy lets me know: “This is not ‘Animal Planet’!” Then something happens – it is “buggy”, big, and it flies past Dougy!
Dougy hops on the end table because “it”, Mr. Bug, flies into the light! If Dougy has a choice, Mr. Bug’s about to have an out-of-body experience!
Andy gets in on the excitement. (But gets left out in the end. Awww!) Dougy hops onto the floor when he sees Mr. Bug’s landed in front of the favorite box.
Woo hoo! Faster than you can say, “Dougy, let me see what you caught,” Dougy chomps down on Mr. Bug – crunch! crunch! – and swallows! This is better than “Animal Planet”!
It is good to have kitties on guard. No bug is safe here either. All the best to you and the boys, Doug! 🙂
I appreciate the fact the kitty boys always approach those little bug opportunities as a team challenge. No fighting over who gets to eat the bug!
Silverfish are the favorites in my house… they are a delicacy!
Ugh! II’d gladly let my kitty boys have those for a snack if they were in my home! Tell your kitty “Good kitty!” for me!
This hunting is exciting stuff !
Stealthy, brutal, bloodless (well, bug juicy…!).
Nom nom nom! Oh, good catch Dougy! Mr. Bug wasn’t gonna get past you! Tee hee hee!
Two chomps is all it took, yet it looked big when it flew by me!
Apparently, you and the Adorables have never met Floridian Palmetto bugs! That’s hours of hunting, and some of those mammoth size critters can fly, which provides plenty of jumping exercise mode around here.
Are those the ones with the cute white “booties”? No – just looked it up. Ugh! That would definitely appeal to both Andy and Dougy! They settle for spiders, flies, and crickets that sometimes make it inside.
“Ugh” is the word for giant flying cockroaches! Cat’s delight, though.
Just reading that the exact response was “ugh”! Ugh! Giant flying cockroach! I wouldn’t survive in Florida.
Any native Floridian will say that they had been here before people came and will still be here when people are gone. Living on the first floor means getting used to occasional appearances.
What are those little bugs with the white ball-like knobs for feet?
I have no idea – never seen those.
I thought those were the cockroaches, but the photo I saw showed a really cute-looking bug, not a pest.
If you send me a link to that photo, perhaps I’ll recognize the critters.
I saw the photo on DailyBooth many years ago. That site went out of business November 12, 2012, according to a fact search. Though I’ve looked thousands (no exaggeration) of insect photos for Florida and adjoining states on the chance I could find this insect, I haven’t. I suspect I would learn the name of the insect if I did find a photo of it. Regardless, I think you and I have better things to do with our time than to pursue this bug’s identity. Apparently it isn’t that well known or you probably would be aware of it by my brief description.
The one thing I know for sure: this is not a “no see’um” because those you really can’t see, but they bite something terrible!
It seems it spent its time on palmettos and was actually a type of cockroach, cute or not.
Palmetto palms, you mean, right?
No… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabal_palmetto
https://www.google.com/search?q=What+is+the+difference+between+a+palmetto+tree+and+a+palm+tree%3F&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj0gICwt8_XAhVM4mMKHWVPCX8QzmcIPg
I know what palmetto palms are; we have them in the courtyard, and generally they are all over the place.
Such a good hunter. None of my cats go after any bugs that get inside.
Both Andy and Dougy are hardcore hunters when the chance occurs! In fact, when we play, I have to be aware of their personal preferences, and present the toy to them in a way that matches their preferred hunting style. Good grief!
I haven’t payed your blog a visit to for some time. I am glad to see that your cats are feeling good
They keep busy and exercise regularly. Of course, they [pay attention to their appearance, keep clean, and sleep at least 16-18 hours a day!
Spiders seem to be the arachnid–I was about to say bug–of choice around here. I wonder what they eat?
Spiders are big (in popularity!) here, too, though a good cricket is looked upon favorably buy the kitty boys.
I have never seen a cricket in these parts!
They are common here, and frequently make there way into the house and doom!
No bug is safe in a house with cats.
I appreciate their help!
I so agree!!!! that’s the kind or real reality tv ;o)
Yes! Yes! Yes! Dougy’s still excited~!
