Something new in the neighborhood. I’ve tried to show Andy (on right) and Dougy the new neighbor, but they just haven’t been in the right place at the right time.
Yes, we have a new short-haired black kitty across the lane! I haven’t learned whether it’s a kitty girl or kitty boy, let alone its name, but I see it every morning and later during the day lounging in the picture window that’s directly across from the kitty boys and me.
So far, the kitty boys don’t seem to be curious about their new neighbor, which, I think, is also an indoor kitty.

When I open my posts, I don’t see a privacy notice, though I thought I successfully added the automatic one required by the EU countries. I ask you, my readers, do you see one? If not, I will try again to add one.
In the meantime, I am not clever enough to sell your information and would never do it anyway. Is it stored? Not to my knowledge, but…!
If you see advertisements, it is possible to block them (I get a tiny income off these that isn’t paid till I have a minimum of US$100, which may take at least three years at the current rate to accumulate!)
At this point, I pay $300 a year to bring these posts to you and have made one-tenth of that off the advertisements. Clearly, I am not a clever person when it comes to making money, and could be forced to end this blog at some point since I am a retiree on a fixed income.
I don’t see a banner. And when I do, I ignore them. Some pig-headed part of me (that’s about 98%) refuses to click them when I can read around them. Take that, interfering banners.
I read around them, too, when possible. They are irritating, though these “you are too stupid to figure things out for yourself” government-mandated warnings are typical these days. My oven door has a label that it isn’t a step, in case you’re too dense to figure out it will tip over if you stand on it!
Mom and I sure hope you don’t have to close your bloggie, but if you do you could still continue to post pics and videos of Dougy and Andy for free on other social media sites. There are some anipals that get $$ with paid advertisements on their youtube channels or through their instagram pages. Mom is still trying to figure out the new privacy rules. Purrs.
I know what you mean about the new privacy rules. I see there is a privacy notice about all blogs on WP being compliant with the requirements when you bring up the sign-in for this site. On the other hand, some of the blogs I bring up have the notice and most don’t! (I see on app that specifically addresses the issue in the huge list of apps you can add to your blog here. Go to “My Site”, then scroll down to “Plugins”. At the top left of the first screen after you hit “Plugins”, you’ll see “Suggested Searches”. Click on “Security”, then scroll down forever through hundreds of apps till you come on this one: https://wordpress.com/plugins/gdpr/
With any luck, that link will save you the scolling, and you can add it to your blog. If not, it shows up on the left hand side of the endless apps, is labelled GDPR on a EU flag icon.
Your loyal followers will follow you. I started my blog on Blogger, and for TWO years I blogged the same posts on BOTH until I got tired, and figured the Blogger fans would figure it out when I finally deleted it. The old timers who were loyal came over. The others fell by the wayside but I have more followers than I ever did there so all’s well. I will shut-up now!
I started on blogger, had no particular thought on what direction to take it, ends=ed it at one posting! Ha!

What a pretty neighbor kitty ! We can’t see any banner on your blog here in Switzerland, but if you’re on WordPress, you can activate it easy peasy through the JetPack plugin (it’s one of the feature), or through the Cookie Notice plugin (if you want to install it). Purrs
I do, mostly because I want people to feel comfortable stopping m=by.
I can’t see any banner across the screen here in England. I really wouldn’t bother. Most people over here are fed up with all this fuss and it will all die down soon. I think it’s about companies anyway rather than individuals.
I hope so. I’ll hang loose, as we say over here, and wait for the Euro-cops to bang on my door, guns a-blazing, with Euro-lawyers hanging on their heels in hopes of making a fortune off the proceeds of the legal action.
I now see a banner on my own blog under the comment reply. I am using the free version of WP though, and they stuck it there by default.
I found a plugin that I claims to do the trick. I can’t see any difference.
I hope you don’t have to stop blogging. I wish I had some advice, but I have yet to figure out how to make money blogging too.
My original intention was to share photos and stories of and about Andy and Dougy. That was fun. Once I reached a point on WordPress where I had to upgrade to gain extra storage – photos eat that up like piranhas on a cow – a lot of the fun was gone. That annual $300 is a huge chunk for me! I can do it, but it makes making some money off the posts, enough to pay the $300 fee at least, tantalizing.
I am not gettin them either Doug but since you have a paid plan there are a couple of free plugins with one click install that cover it all. My blog is the free plan so I don’t have them there but I put them on other WordPress websites I run. They work just fine and are not intrusive,
The advertising plugin is one, I believe, if I understand what you are talking about. Of course, it is an annoyance to those viewing the posts, one they can opt out of having by using ad blockers. (That, of course, limits what little income I get from the advertisement placements, which also may make me vulnerable to the new EU privacy requirements – don’t know)
I don’t see the two new thingies on your site at all that I now see on mine, which is one of the free blogs. One is a banner with a “Privacy and Cookies” notice and a link to “Cookie policy”. The other is at the end of the comments to inform anyone commenting, and says “This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.” followed by the clickable words, “Learn how your comment data is processed.” I’m pretty sure I got the latter after clicking on something within the dashboard from Akismet, sorry to say can’t recall exactly where it appeared. The cookies banner showed up by itself. I’ve also read that we are supposed to write “Privacy Policies,” which will be a challenge for me as a nontechie with a head swimming from all this. HTH. Marvelous to have a new feline neighbor! Hopefully Andy and Dougie will feel intrigued by the new kitty neighbor too!
I have the spam control business through Akismet. I haven’t given up on getting the other business to show up, though…hell!

I still don’t know which the kitty is. I never see the neighbors because their daily schedule and mine don’t match. (I think they work night shift and afternoon shift or something like that.) As for the kitty boys dating the new kitty if it is a kitty girl, they are neutered!

Yes, and why stop blogging when you can do it for free. Maybe not so many bells and whistles but who really cares?
I can come to that. The blog is followed by the most people ever, something I’d hate to see drop with a new one, but there probably are lots of people signed up on the current one who aren’t currently following me regularly or are no longer active on the site.
Most followers are spam followers who just want a follow back, so I don’t follow with WordPress!!! The real ones come back again and again. You learn to recognize them. I was gonna say maybe you could back up your present blog and then import the backup to a new free blog, or is that export, and see what you get. You might blow up the internet though! Andy and Dougy would not like that, or would they?
I know there are some spam followers still. I went through my followers and eliminated lots of them a few weeks ago. If I don’t find something interesting about a spam follower, I delete them, but there are some that are interesting enough to keep. I try not to follow people who post huge amounts a day, though many photographers I follow do.

Others have noted that. I’d think they’d have some information for those of us spending big bucks on how to comply. I will have to give up lots of followers to start a new one, and I don’t know what other complications there will be stopping the current one.

The boys look EXACTLY the same colour in this post! I would have struggled to tell the difference.
They actually are easy to tell apart in real life. There are many differences. Andy is a slightly smaller cat with yellow eyes and a narrower face. Looking down on him, he looks like an American football (oval-shaped) when his hair is long. Dougy has a more muscular look, with broad shoulders and narrow hips. His eyes are orangey-brown and wider-set. He has a distinct Persian kitty face, where Andy’s looks more like his Birman father’s – more narrow. Dougy has softer hair than Andy. Dougy is self-assured, whereas Andy is a shy kitty (even with me sometimes). Dougy is more “talkative” than Andy. Andy “talks” softly; Dougy “talks” loudly.
I don’t see a privacy notice, as I have on other blogs. I think, since you have a paid-for blog, WordPress automatically has you covered….
I’m almost at the end of my media storage limit and am not sure I want to pay the $15 a month (or is it year?) they want for increased photo storage. It’d be far cheaper just to start another blog on the free plan, and inform my few readers that I’m moving on. I might lose some people, but I think the majority would understand and follow me along. I certainly would do so for yours!
You could make space by deleting photos and posts from when you started your blog. That’s what I do. I started in 2013 and practically eliminated the year. 2014 is next on my list to be removed. Rarely does anyone read the old old stuff any more. It is not very relevent to today. No need for a new blog.
I’m messing up answers today by hitting wrong keys or something. Anyway, somewhere among the comments is what I wrote to you. I’m trying to find and correct this mess. Sorry! The answer to you had to do with how I use the old posts as a diary and photo resource for old photos that are here but lost on the PC with the crashed hard drive – it died before I could complete an update, of course! There are old posts that I could and should delete, though it is hard to do. A few political ones, ones that aren’t about the early years of the kitty boys, holiday ones all could be deleted with no problem.
Guess all I can say is Backup Backup Backup! Let me add external hard drive backups!
For sure. Of course, everyone puts it off and learns the hard way why you must do it habitually and as often as practical!
Yes another blogger i follow just did that. She is not technical but got a little help and it went very smoothly, She is just leaving the old one up for people to look back on and moving forward with the new one.
The old one has photos of the kitty boys and two predecessor kitties that I don’t have saved elsewhere. (The PC disc drive died…) If the old blogs stay available, starting weggieboy 2 would be acceptable to me, thogh I’d not look forward to all the set up business. Of course, I am more familiar with WP now, and that wouldn’t take as long as it took initially.
It’s a thought. I do, however, use it as a personal diary and resource for old photos that were lost when a PC crashed before I finished a final photo and video save to memory stick.
I’ll try to use their help feature to verify that about the privacy notice. I’d think there’d still be the notice, though, if it were automatic for paid blogs. ???
No, it’s per month, but you have to pay the whole amount for a year. I think they want to let you know the amount it would be a month so you feel it is reasonable. LOL!

I didn’t see the banner, Doug. I don’t always see it either on my site, I suspect it has to do with being the Admin? Not sure but mine does pop up. The banner is so irritating, at times I just ignore it.
Yes, it is irritating since it adds just one more thing to click on to get to the content that interests me. It has a granny state quality about it that I dislike. I haven’t seen it on that many posts by others, so I suspect most people said, “To hell with it, let them come and get me.”
No not getting a privacy notice here, but I do not think it is required here in New Zealand – so probably not in Australia either. WordPress do have a range of free themes, one of which I use though I realise it all depends on what you want to achieve with your WordPress blog.
I am happy with the current theme for what I want to do, and it replaced an earlier one that was free and basic. It isn’t clear what the privacy notice requirements are. It sounded like it was required regardless of where one lives if one wanted to have followers in EU countries. Of course, many of the people reading this blog live in EU countries, and I value them no less than people reading it elsewhere! I’d hate to lose EU country readers, especially since I follow many people living in the EU countries, too.
I have followers from across a wide range of countries too, including EU countries but I have not noticed any regular patterns as to where and when the privacy notices appear. I hope the boys see their new kitty neighbour soon.
