Post 1815: when I touch food, anything, the kitty boys need to smell my fingers…
I know the rule: If I touch anything, especially food, the kitty boys expect me to let them smell my fingers. It’s The Rule!
Dougy (above) is busy resting, but he appreciates the chance to smell buttered toast on my hands. (Good grief!)

I read somewhere that cats can detect things that are spoiled long before a human would notice it. If I think the milk (or gravy) is getting iffy, I decant just a bit and let them have at it. They will turn up their noses and walk away if they think it’s off.
I believe it! That way she knows where you’ve been, what you came in contact with. My kitties do the same whenever I come home from somewhere, and, of course, they are very interested in smelling my fingers in case I ate something while gone!
How else would they know if you want to share?
LOL! True!
Sounds like you have two personal food inspectors now! 🙂
For sure! Intense and thorough ones!
My creature does the same thing not to mention I believe just love and affection
Yes, the nose touch business is evidence of kitty love!

Makes sense! They do have the more keen sense of smell.
Even with our short noses, it’s always a good thing to smell things first. It’s just us kitties being cautious. Winks.
Perhaps I wouldn’t have had the tummy upset if I’d smelled what I was eating first!
It’s a way to foster companionship and trust. 😸😻
My cat also smells my school backpack everyday when I come back home…

I know that rule… I sadly have the weird habit to use my pants as a finger cleaner… now I have one with a hole ;O)))
Oh dear! With two interested parties, too!
