Poor kitty! He looks like I’m tearing his tail off, but he’s actually being a very good kitty while I prepare him for his medicine.
As mentioned earlier, I’ve added brushing Andy to the medicine routine. He was a bit growly (and scratched his groomer) the last time he and Dougy went in for grooming. By brushing him when I have him in arm for the medicine, he’s gradually getting used to the sensation, doesn’t have new mats, and may be a better client at the groomer’s next time!
And maybe in time you can take over as his one and only groomer. I purr-sonally luv to be brushed and I bet Andy will get to like it more and more as time goes on.
I think Andy is getting used to it. It makes his coat easier to maintain (on Andy’s part) because there is less dead hair in it. Andy does a pretty good job of combing the dead floof out of his coat using his incisors, but he always eats it afterwards! (Hairball City!)
I always wonder what are pets up to….
Yws, I’ve considered getting a motion-activated vidfeo camera to find out!
That is a good idea to get him used to brushing.
So far, it’s working!
awwwww poor little critter
He puts on a pretty good “poor kitty” show. No kitty boys were harmed making those photos!

The grooming will help in the long run but it’s not going to be a barrel of fun for awhile. Tyebe is at the stage where she hates a brushing. I keep trying though.

Andy’s more used to it now. He doesn’t fight it so much. I think the last time he was at the groomer’s, Athena got his coat cleaned up to the point that the brushing doesn’t snag since the mats are gone, as is the loose hair.
That face! He looks so angry. 😻😻
I see it as terror! LOL! That mean look is a Persian thing, as you probaly know, buty Andy (and Dougy) are gentle beings.
Lily will take peanut butter or cheese she’s good that way it took me a lot of practice
I’m glad I don’;t have to give him pill-form medicine! The liquid is administered with a syringe, a simple process once you hold his head in position.
that is a very good idea… I will try that too with touching phennys nails with something… either I will die or it works and the vet will survive the next time…
LOL! It’d make a great Phenny episode for your blog! Good luck!
Poor fella doesn’t understand why he goes through the medicine routine and Dougy doesn’t.
I do wish I could talk with him and know he understands why he has to go through this twice a day.
I never would have thought brushing would help with medication.
It has nothing to do with the medicine time other than I have him handy. I hold him like a baby and brush hus tummy (since it is face up) and the side, then flip him over to expose the other side. I can oretty much get the whole cat this way. As long as there aren’t any snags, he tolerates the brushing pretty werll. I think his reistence before was because he had mats that snagged on the brush: it hurt him! I think he has started to accept the brushing as a pleasant thing.
I think most cats like to be brushed but I can see where snagging would be unpleasent.
Exactly. Ande, of courtse, Persian kitties have thick coats that can become very nasty for combing. The kitty boys tolerate the brush more than the comb.
Pets are so smart that they know about their meds and we must get creative to get them to take them….chuq
Andy has become much easier to catch than in past. I think he associates the medicine time with the kitty treats afterwards, and, perhaps now, the brushing, which he seems to like.
WE do what we must huh? chuq
I’m glad he is easier to catch and calmer while going through the medicine time. It used to be an ordeal for aus both until I learned to swaddle him, then spend time talking calmly with him, rubbing his ears and nose.
I use to have to hide all meds with potted meat….and that did not work every time…they are so darn clever….chuq
I think that would fail with my two, too.
