The power went out mid-afternoon. What to do? Nothing, it seems. This time of year, keeping warm is the big deal and I have electric heating. So, I went to bed early, wrapped in blankets and quilts. One never knows how long a power outage will last, of course, and the blizzard conditions suggested it might be a long time before the problem might be resolved.
I had a long, nice sleep, cozy in my cocoon, sleeping till the light in the front room cast a warm glow in my bedroom. I’d left it on after the power went down. I got up, started to watch a film noir with Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet in their first film together, but fell asleep in my chair.
When I woke up, it was four hours past kitty food time! Andy was asleep on the recliner arm, waiting for me to stir. Poor thing! He must have really suffered sucking in his stomach all those hours trying to make me think he was starving! Dougy, on the other hand, was asleep under the chair in the north bathroom. Apparently he had some dry kitty food to tide him over.
Yes, everything is topsy turvy.
The power started to flicker off at my house last week. I think that happens when the ALIENS are flying by. EEK!
LOL! Or some silly squirrel completing the circuit.
Best wishes and hopes for you three!
Other than the power outage, things were relatively OK. The worst of it happened north and south of us.
New Mexico had 6 inches of snow, but its all cleared now! Caused Tim a lot of bother!
I’m so glad all is betterer now, Doug!
Cheers.
Ours was about half that here, but north and south of her was worse. We have warmer weather coming and there was lots of melting yesterday.
3 inches is enough, Doug. Good that the melting has begun, too.
Are the furries interested in looking out at the snow?
I’ve just had two nursed, one after the other visit me, and am now in slightly higher spirits. Hahaha!
Cheers. Doug, take care.
Nurses do that for a fellow! As for snow, here’s a video featuring Dougy, the explorer kitty boy some five plus years ago when we had a late snow in May.

Ta, mate. I’ll have a decka.
As king as all three of you stayed warm and comfortable!
The temperature in the house dropped a bit but it’s toasty inside now.
Is it still inhuman temperature outside? I don’t know how people survive those conditions, Doug!
No kidding! I’m cold blooded and enjoy my excessive heat! (Between the electric heat and two heavy blankets, I’m just about comfortable.)
Stay warm, my friend! That goes for The Adorables as well!
It’s starting to be a December “warm” spell, with temperatures above freezing. A typical Nebraskan would wear shorts and a winter jacket in this weather. LOL!
I might catch a cold just thinking about it!
Yes, that highly variable temperatures business can make immunosuppressed individuals (me!) more vulnerable to infections coughers spread around.
In that case, you’ll have to just stay in with The Adorables – they don’t spread any infections.
I think power outages are going to be more of the norm in the future with climate change and unstable weather patterns. Out here where we are it is usually downed trees or someone skidding into a utility pole. Stay warm and dry!
I fear you are right.
Doug, you and the kitty boys be careful out there! Apparently we’re under the same “atmospheric river,” though it’s unlikely to snow where I am. Back in Minnesota, we used to keep sleeping bags, candles and butane lighters for winter power outages (candles generate a lot of heat), though for my kids, the worst thing was not having any TV! Now I’m mostly worried about not being able to charge my smartphone (like a lot of people, I don’t have a hardwire phone anymore) and not having internet service. No Little House on the Prairie for us anymore!
You pretty well covered the disadvantages I feel during a power outage. I suppose I could use my laptop if charged, but I use it long periods of time. Not knowing how long an outage will be, one needs to conserve use “in case”. Likewise, my smart phone needs to be used prudently. I am on Life Alert, so that access to 911 services is there for me, but contacting emergency services in lieu of television is not a good idea! LOL!
Yikes Doug, I hope your power is back on soon!
It came on during the night. The temperature dropped a bit inside, but we’re toasty again!
I hope your power is back soon Doug. Michigan is getting a layer of ice the last few hours, I hope it stays away while I’m up there in a few short days. Stay warm guys!
We had power in fairly short time – a few hours. Seems a power line was ripped down by the wind in a phenomenon called “galloping power line”. I’d never heard of it before. Seems squirrels cause more outages around here~! Anyway, here’s a video of this:

Admittedly, when we have a blizzard up here in Canada, our favorite place is our cottage, fireplace on, with our two rather large golden retrievers.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I could live with that! And add a mug of strong, hot coffee or other hot drink.
