Sometimes. It stays amazingly untangled, though. The main reason to brush it is to loosen poop that he occasionally gets in it if he doesn’t hold it up properly.
LOL! If he isn’t careful, he carries the perfume of the litterbox on that tail! On a more pleasant level, it is fun to let his tail run through my hand when he walks by. It is soft and fluffy!
I always make sure his groomer doesn’t trim it. Once, the veterinarian took his blood pressure on his tail. They had to trim it on the underside to assure good contact. Andy was very, very, very upset about that!
Andy is so vain about his tail that I always tell his groomer not to trim it beyond what’s needed for a hygienic trim. After all, what’s worse than a tail trim than a poop bath to wash poop off that magnificent appendage? Andy says baths are worse, of course!

LOL! Dior perfume or maybe a little Ogallala Aquifer water from the tap in my bathroom, applied liberally on a very unhappy kitty boy…!

I don’t know how dogs handle docked tails since that is a big part of dog communications….
