I have a little eggnog my friend Casey gave me for Christma left and a really fine single malt scotch my Texas friend Chris and I share – he has a matching bottle in Texas – while having our routine telephone chats. The scotch is best left to sharing times with Chris. I will probably have some ‘nog at the stroke of midnight. Of course, more likely than not, Andy and I will share our New Year’s tradition: Once again, we will sleep through the transition from this year to the next!
You did better than I staying up. I had too much to do to get a nap.
I let nature determine my nap times. I’ve stopped fighting the need to rest the older IF get!
I always need a nap to be up that late. 🙂
I had one from 5:30 pm till 10 pm, but Andy probably had several in the same period. He was awake long enough for his kitty food and some rituals like the “Mousies in Cabinets” game and the up and down the spine “scritches” that start our day.
I will be asleep before midnight. Happy New Year to you and Andy.

Happy New Year, Doug and Andy! We’ll be lounging around with cats too, hoping no one nearby shoots off fireworks and scares them!
My apartment is a duplex. A few minutes from midnight, I heard these knocks coming from somewhere. In the middle of the night…! Mysterious noises! Then I realized the neighbor’s bathroom is on the other side of my bedroom wall. Mystery solved, the question became “What the heck are they doing over there this time of night?” Apparently no one shot off fireworks near me this year. Good!
So good you got through with no fireworks! We had them and some cats did hide. Worried about our feral girl and the stray we’re feeding till we find his owner, though.
I never like the dang things, even hated fireworks as a kid because of the loud bangs.

I felt tired in the late afternoon, went to bed at 5:30 pm, work up at 10 pm, and was awake for midnight and the coming in of a new year for the first time in decades!
