Doug and Andy’s  Farewell…

It is with a heavy heart that I  share the news that Doug passed away on May 31st.

Our family wanted to thank each any every one of you for being loyal followers to Doug’s blog.   We know he considered all of you his friends/ family.   We feel like we know some of  you so well from the stories and pictures he has shared with us.  It brought him such joy to share his kitties with you.

Your encouragement and checking in on him when he went missing for a few days gave him the strength to keep fighting more than you will ever know.  He always wanted to show up for “his people”.

Rest assured Andy is being loved on endlessly and is  being well taken care of.

Much Love,

Andy and family

  1. I was at work last night when I first read this, and just had to step away for a moment. There gets to be a connectedness on these blogs that transcends the fact that we bloggers seldom meet in person. Doug’s personality brilliantly lit up his blog, and his relationship with Andy showed true warmth. We’ll miss him.

  7. Thank you so much for letting us all know, and for making sure Doug’s beloved Andy is being cared for. Doug and his kitties and the way cared for and wrote about them charmed me, and every follower. Because I too have a rare chronic medical condition to cope with, and I know what that’s like, I wanted to always support his posts. My heart goes out to all Doug’s family, friends, and followers.

  8. I’ve known Doug since the Dailybooth days, circa 2008 or 2009. Back then we would comment on our respective cats 🐈. Doug became an aficionado of my time zone which he renamed after my name and was always the first to wish me a birthday despite being almost a day behind. Yes, Doug had friends in all corners of the world, as far away as New Caledonia. Please accept my condolences and I’m sure he’s pain free where he is now on his next journey. Delighted to know Andy is being loved still the same . Fanch from the FTZ time.

  9. This made me tear up. I missed Doug’s posts and had a feeling he was no longer with us. I hope his family can take comfort in knowing what a fan base he had here and how much we loved him, if only as you can love a person on the internet. 💔 I am glad Andy will be cared for. Please let us know from time to time how he is doing.

  10. I am so sorry for your loss (our loss too!). He was an inspiration to many with how he managed so well for so long. Thank you for letting us all know that Andy is ok. I will miss his friends and family that he shared with us.

  11. Thank you so much for letting us know. I was worried (I am 80 with elderly cats and we live alone) but I could only admire his spirit, his love for Andy, and his friends and his life. He was a gallant, strong gentleman, Please give Andy an extra cuddle for us. The two Dougs will be reunited.

  12. Dear family of Doug and Andy… thank you so much for letting us know that our good friend has passed. This is such a nice little circle of friends and family here.. all thanks to Doug and Andy. It was always first thing every day that many of us checked in on… always so nice to be part of Doug’s and Andy’s life. Thank you too for reassuring us that Doug’s beloved Andy is with you and being loved more and more. Prayers and thankfulness to each one… Carol

  13. I never commented on Doug’s blog, being simply a stranger who stumbled one day across a weblog written by a man who clearly loved his cat and enjoyed sharing moments with him, and who confronted daunting illness with grace and courage.

I am sorry now I didn’t interact more. Reading the obituary made me sit straight up. My father (1925-2007) was raised if not born in Alliance, and went to Alliance High School, where he played in the band; his mother was the organist at First Presbyterian through about the mid 1960’s. WWII sent him to Georgia, and after the war he auditioned for and was inducted into the US Army Band in the Military District of Washington, where I was born. So I saw little of Alliance, but I remember visits. And as a musician’s daughter I cherish a large CD collection, mostly classical. I wish I had entered the conversation, rather than just enjoying the daily photos of Andy. I did not imagine having anything in common with this likable man other than a love for cats. I am glad to have shared his brief acquaintance, even as a lurker. I am sending him my thanks, wherever he is, for making my life that little bit richer.

  14. Doug’s posts and blog will be missed. I looked forward to it every day. Also I’m glad to hear Andy is being well taken care of. Will miss you Doug. Joleen
