30Jun23: The glorious smoke Persian in my home!

Andy is very interested in what I’m trying to do…. (I was ranting and raving at a credit card representative about an on-going issue I have with the way I have to redo my sign on credentials every time I try to access my account.)

Then I stopped when I noticed how Andy’s smoke Persian coat really shows up in daylight! Man, he’s pretty! (By then, Andy couldn’t care less about what I was doing. So it goes!)

29Jun23: time to get back to work…

Wake up! Wake up, Andy! You got yesterday off and it’s time to get back to your kitty work!

You can do it, sleepyhead!

That’s it, Andrew! Take care of your precious!

28Jun23: My longest time friend’s big day is today!

I don’t remember birthdays very often, but 28 June always is my friend’s birthday! In 2018, he celebrated it in Denmark with his American and Danish cousins and families. Unlike many people with immigrant roots, my friend Terry, proud of his family’s Danish roots, has learned Danish and has been back to Denmark to visit his Danish family on occasion.

Terry and I met when we were two or so years old. On his and my first day of kindergarten, we began our education and the next phase of our friendship. I especially enjoyed being invited to go to the family farm, where his grandparents and an aunt and uncle and two cousins lived. (That’s a photo of Terry on his first day of kindergarten.)

Terry had lots of family on both sides who lived in the area, and I enjoyed meeting and knowing them all! (Most of my family lived in Colorado, California, even one in Cairo, Egypt, so I rarely saw any of them.)

Terry and I grew up in a neighborhood where we played baseball in the city lot, kick the can, and other kid games. Terry and I made up a game, in fact, that we called “hello fun”. There was a cottonwood tree on the corner of 10th and Mississippi. We’d sit on the large kid-sized exposed root of this tree and wave and yell “Hello!” at people in cars driving by. Well, we thought it was fun!

We both graduated high school in time, went to different schools and followed different paths for a few years, Terry becoming a librarian in charge of all town school libraries and I, a quality assurance guy in a hose factory.

Terry has been on the committee that organizes high school reunions for as long as I can remember. I think he’s been doing it since the first one, locating people, sending emails and letters, maintaining reunion records and more. He’s also one of the organizers of the monthly get togethers where a small group of Class of 1966 friends and a couple Class of 1967 friends have a social time with food, drink, and chatter.

=(^+^)=

This is off topic today because I wanted to celebrate a friend, a very special person in my life, a friend for over 70 years! I’ve had very few who’ve been that special. Others have died. That makes Terry just that much more special, eh?! I’m glad we both are around for yet another birthday in 2023.

Andy gave me his ok to let him have a day off so I could celebrate my friendship with Terry on Terry’s special day.

27Jun23: sneaking up on Andy…

It would be fun sneaking up on Andy…

…if…

…he didn’t “sleep” with one eye partially open. Creepy!

26Jun23: Andy’s weird, wonky whiskers…

The left side shows up, barely, in this photo.

They almost disappear head-on in this photo.

They kind of show in this light, then you see how wonky the left side whiskers are!

=(^+^)=

All is well here. Hope you are enjoying your day.

25Jun28: Andy has better things to do than amuse his human….

Andy can be very mean!

He chose to ignore me, after giving me the claw!

“Douglas is gone, vanished when I turn my head!”

Zzzzzz….

Hail that fell in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on 23 June 2023, photo posted by Ann Salomon

We are getting the June-typical weather this week and next! Tornado alerts – I slept through one during the most recent one – and thunder and lightning accompanying gully washer rainstorms happen nearly daily! Hail with these storms fills your palm and you wish you lived underground. Andy handles the racket unexpectedly well, though lightning strikes nearby produce thunder that rattles the windows, the most “kool” kitty, and me.

While the cooler weather that comes from these storms is welcome, the potential for major damage to possessions is tedious reality.

Remember those shiftless pioneers from a few blog posts ago? Crossing the prairie in the 1800s and getting caught in one of these storms must have been enough to send some back to Ohio and other places east!

I’ve been in one in a car where day turned to darkest night, all traffic had to stop by the roadside to wait out the storm, and the pounding rain roared down on the car with such intensity the car rocked. Very frightening!

24Jun23: kitty trap…

The trap’s set! Now the wait.

What! What! What! I sense success!

Did I speak (out loud) too soon?

No. The kitty fell for it!

I feel failure coming on…

…and the bait’s been ravaged. I bet the kitty comes back to take more bait….

Andy came back briefly to get “scritched”, then run like heck in a “zoomies” episode.

=(^+^)=

I love berry season! This is one of the ways I enjoy them.

I lucked out here, I see. Until I saw the photo, I didn’t notice how precariously perched my plate was. Whew!

23Jun23: nothing happening here….

Andy stopped by to check things out…

…but saw nothing of kitty interest was happening here.

Adiós.

=(^+^)=

It’s storm season here, with one yesterday that was supposedly capable of softball-sized hail. Yikes!

22Jun23: priorities…

Poor Andy! To play, to groom, or to eat? Too many choices.

This requires kitty thought and how!

Andy grooms while he thinks a bit.

Too hard!!

Um…

Sniff! Sniff!

A no brainer!

Nom! Nom! Nom!

=(^+^)=

Andy has a tougher challenge to meet today than I do. Things are going well for me, with no major upsets or challenges. That’s pretty much the way I like it. I hope you are “suffering” the same!

21Jun23: snack time…

Andy finished his supper of kitty food.

“Dessert” or a “snack”?

Call it what you will…

…Andy likes a few Greenies after he’s had his kitty food!
