The Italians invented the opera in 1600. Claudio Monteverdi was first – and they took it to the top in no time! It was so popular composers as diverse as Haydn and Rameau had to try their hand at it, too!

Some very lively, beautiful ensemble pieces in this one. It’s playing now, my cat.

I doubt the albums showm are in publication any longer. I went through my Vivaldi phase 35 or 40 years ago. Music of any genre is personal. You know what you like, and that makes it good, even if others don’t get the music, what’s “good.” Personally, I like most music, even stuff that might surprise you…and me! I listen to it. Something appeals – bassist work, singer’s voice, the message of the song, the melody, the skill of the players on their instruments. The biggest clue to do I like some music is, though, do I want to listen to anything they put out more than once?
How about you?
Is that a comb next to Andy’s Greenies? Is it safe there?
Andy like the music the Greenies make as they land on the lapboard. 🙂
What one deems good is personal, for sure, and variety expands horizons.
Yes, treats are important to Andy.
Too.mych so!

Aside from Carmen (and who doesn’t like Carmen) we mostly do old rock and folk here. Music is so personal. I studied classical piano for 4 years in my youth. I was eager to hit the rock and roll after that.
My brotherbused to let me ride with him in a youth ritual here called “cruisin’ the Butte” namely driving to one end of Box Butte Avenue, making a U turn, drive to the opposite end, make a U turn, and repeat till a $1.00 worth of gasoline was used up
LOL! Wendy listen to KOMA, an Oklahoma City station that played all those now classic 50 s R&R records till dawn. Though I was just my brother’s little brother, Iloved and love all that music as if it were my generation’s. My late brother was wzs seven years older than me. Only later did I realize he. wasn’t just treating me, he realized a really cute little brother attracted the girls! LOL! Well played my brother. Well played.

Siblings always have a motive! 🙂
I have quite a collection of opera, too, and a fairly eclectic taste
I got into those on the Orpheus and Euridice legend, starting with Monteverdi and ending with that nasty Offenbach debacle. Gluck’s French version I like because the fashion then was to have ballet interludes, which allowed one to rest a bit in what is an intense opera. TheItian version by Gluck, too is very agreeable. I suspect I have at least ten, possibly eleven versions on this theme. Luck wins over all.

Ha, do you call him Andrew when you’re cross with him? (And does he call you Douglas?)
I like a wide range of music, opera, Mozart, etc. on a limited basis, and Bob Dylan; all the old sixties stuff – if I could shout I’d likely be yelling “Hey we had better music” at the surrounding students … Authentic blues, authentic bluegrass … One thing I tell myself the kitties enjoy with me, is The Kiffness music.
Andy will lie there while I play classical and Romantic works. He had a brief touch of Baroque – Vivaldi mandolin – but none of the Baroque operas y Rameu, Fully, or Handel.

we go with treats too … but operas are a good soul calmer from time to time
I especially like Handel ‘s operas. Hayden in the next era is very hood, too. He had been a boy soprano till his voice broke – shortly before he was to become a castrato! , and his concert pieces have that lyricism that reflect his familiarity with vocal music. Love it!
