25Oct24: busy…

Andy came around.

I was busy, but Andy needed to do his mousie audit of the kitchen cabinets.

I tried to be patient.
Thanks to a slight fall and having a CT scan I’d not planned my day around…

…I was running behind on making deviled eggs for my Class of 1966 monthly get-together.

I boiled 12 eggs because one can count on a few to end up weird and unusable. Well, I am able to use the yolk and snack on the whites of these failures! Out of 12, three were broken or otherwise unusable.

The new doctor in dialysis has a new policy that if you have a fall, you need to have a CT scan. I had a temper tantrum when this little detail was dropped on me just as I was preparing to leave dialysis. The fall was more of a stumble, with no pain beyond the initial stumble. There was no bruising, either. I didn’t even hit the floor, just a light brush with my face against my walker. The CT scan felt excessive. Oh well, I got through it all. I look forward to the get-together later this morning.

  1. I am glad the fall was not serious and caused no damage, but the CAT scan policy needs to be stated in writing and patients need to be aware of its existence.
Pour a goodly portion of salt on top of the eggs before you pour water, then bring to hard boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. No mistakes guaranteed. In case a weird egg or two still happen, you can not only use extra yolks for filling, but also crumble the white and sprinkle “snow” on top.

  2. I am glad everything is alright, Doug!

Have a good time at the get together. I have the same trouble with hard boiled eggs, a few come out wonky from time to time. I had forgotten about the salt trick.

  3. Every doctor visit I get asked the “Have you fallen ?” question. Some of my friends are asked to count backward from 100, so I guess I am lucky.
Put abut a tablespoon of salt in the water when you boil eggs – that helps prevent the “mistakes.”

    • I’ve brought my concerns to the attention of staff. If they are going to expect this response to all falls, they need to work up an information sheet and make sure we understand the intent of it.

  4. Always good to have Andy there scanning for mousies! But not so good to have constant medical scans! Glad you had no trouble from the fall. I’ve had some more medical problems of late too, along with the complications of the medical system. One place for diagnosis, another to prescribe one kind of med, yet another for another sort of med. Being run ragged!

  5. I kind of understand why they might insist on a CT scan, but I always wonder who’s going to be billed for it whenever a medical professional insists I undergo yet another procedure. I hope you are okay, Doug! Who will give Andy his Greenies? J/k
