09Dec24: still grooming…

Andy managed to get himself very wet at his fountain.
It prompted a clean-up session today.
Spit works to clean if you are a kitty.
Lots of spit!
How it helps deal with a wet coat is beyond me, but Andy is the kitty. He knows best!
Of course, sometimes he needs to scratch an itch, too!

=(^+^)=

I used medication time, once done, to deal with lots of big and small mats on Andy’s chest and in his ruff. He made some progress taking them off, but the ones I worked on were ones too hard for him to get to.

Now…convince him these mats wouldn’t happen if he’d let me brush out the undercoat hair that makes these mats tough to deal with.

He really could use a brushing!

    • I’ve managed to keep up with most of them, though I discover new ones all the time. I’m at a point where I am going to get him to take brushing like a big kitty! It’s the undercoat that mats up, and that’s the hair that fills the brush.

    • He’s getting to go natural because none of the available pet groomers live in town. The closest one lives 19 miles away, though I think one lives in a small settlement 9 miles away. When you are used to a groomer with a mobile van practice who comes to your door to get your little darling, having to truck him several miles and either wait till he’s done or make two trips totalling 38 miles, for example, you’ve tied up a morning at least and upset a kitty that isn’t too thrilled travellings for a long time in a carrier.

    • That long hair adds a lot to his chore. I help with the mats, but he would be very upset with me if I gave him a sink bath like I had to do when he was a kitten with diarrhea. It was no fun for me, either!

    • Yes, though it seems to be a skill some have developed more than others. I suppose mother cats have varying success teaching kitty skills to iffspring.
