20Jan25: training Andy to tolerate the brush…

Andy would endure me dealing with his mats better if he let Mr brush him out.
I held him and brushed him before I took this photo.  While down there, later, he actually let me brush his chest and chin several times since it felt good to him.

I hope to get him used to all over brushing. Getting the loose hair off will help minimize mats and his misery when I work at removing them. Now, to convince Andy!
He feels softer when brushed out.
I sneaked a bit of brushing when he was on the recliner footrest and nodding off. He tolerated it well and may be closer to letting me brush him regularly than I thought!

Regular groomer appointment in past helped minimize mats. When Andy’s last groomer had to stop grooming because of a medical issue, it became problematic for me because she came to the door to pick up Andy to take him to her mobile grooming van.

Though other groomers are in the area, cat-trained groomers are rare. It became obvious Andy’s days of professional grooming likely were over.

I decided then to let him go natural Persian. That’s when not liking to be brushed and mats became a problem.

After pulling mats out over time, I decided I’d try catching and holding Andy to brush him out. Last night was the first time I actually got to brush him without him bolting off! Mats may be history or much fewer now

Andy and I would like that!
