29May25: Must be roll and coffee day!

Andy anticipates a visit, so he cleans up.
“Where is he?”
There’s Bret!
Strawberry rolls and coffee…
…and Andy mugs for coffee. The banana was a nice touch here, too.
Andy stopped by to visit Bret…
…then stopped by the blue carrier to figure out what to do next.
What? He walked right past Bret and stopped by Doug’s closed bedroom door. He wanted to go in there to watch birdies out of the bedroom window.

=(^+^)=

I hadn’t made my bed, so closing the door was a simpler solution to a mess!

=(^+^)=

We’ve had a week of rain, leaving everything fresh and green. I’ve always liked this time of year for the rain and cool weather.

The birds enjoy the pools of water that form on the lane. Andy enjoys the birds that enjoy the pools of water, as you can imagine.

=(^+^)=

On a day with light rain, it’s fun to take a short drive east of town to the Nebraska Sandhills, a major cattle raising part of the state. In historic times, millions of bison thrived on this grassland.
Lakeside, Nebraska, was named that because it’s located next to a lake, this lake. LOL!
One of hundreds of lakes and ponds in the Nebraska Sandhills, this lake is breeding grounds for shore birds, puddle ducks, and assorted birds associated with this type of habitat.
Any time you see trees in the Sandhills, someone probably planted it or a bird or animal deposited a seed in poop.
Back home again. This where I worked for nearly 36 years, Parker Hannifin.

=(^+^)=

Ignore everything from here down! Jetpack won’t let me delete this crap.

  1. I enjoyed seeing the Sandhills, Doug! Glad to see you getting some rain going into summer! We are not getting enough here before the annual summer drought begins.

I looked up Parker-Hannefin. It has an interesting history. Is that where you were injured?

    • Yes, during the early days when it was Electric Hose & Rubber. Parker Hannifin is the current owner since 1991, I think it was, and the most employee-centered one. It was a good place to earn a living!

    • Yes. That drive from Grand Island to Alliance on Nebraska Route 2 is a trip worth doing! I never get enough of little side drives off that road and into the beat places in this state!

    • Yes, they have many facilities in the US and abroad. I hope his location was as great a place to work as mine. The company was a huge improvement over all but one owner. Armstrong Rubber (Armteck, as they renamed themselves after buying out *j. M

  2. I do not like JetPack. Some of the people I follow and are on JetPack, I can only access on my phone or tablet. Others I can get to on my laptop, I like to use the laptop for the pictures (It’s a Chromebook, and the pictures are a lot better on it.) I resisted at first because I didn’t want people to have trouble getting to me. Now I’m just annoyed

    • I made the mistake of trying Jetpack out because “they” made a big deal about it. Not as versatile as WP on a lap top, and all I can say is it does, at least, post in.mt favorite old WP format.

      • Agreed. For a few months there, I thought they were going to shut down the old site entirely. And I’m still no good with the block editor. Hmm. maybe the cats could write about that. 🙂

    • Yes, it is my favorite part of this state, though the Wilcat Hills and the Pine Ridge areas in the Panhandle where I live are historical lyrics interesting and very scenic, too. Actually Moreno since the Oregon Trail and othere trails West came through there, following the Platte across the then-teritory.

  3. Different that Andy was more interested in watching birds than saying hello to Bret. Nice drive, Doug. We’ve had the same cool, rainy weather here. You sure worked for Parker Hannifin for a long time.

    • T.W., though the best time to work there was after Parker Hannifin bought it out in 1991 or so, I had family here and always liked this part of the USA. Before PH, I endured as best I could, noting that each time we had a change of ownership, the places others escaped to often were part of the same company, again, that they escaped from. Uncanny! So why escape?

Yes, Andy didn’t even hop.on the cat tree to encourage Bret to scritch his back!

    • With a light rain filling to ponds and puddles, birds coming in to nest, the greening of the hills, and that freshness the air takes on in the rain, it’s something to share!

    • I enjoyed walking and riding my Peugeot ten-speed in the roadways (Peugeot) and paths (walking) of the Pfaelzerwald south of Kaiserslautern when I was stationed in Germany! It was the same sense of a world where all was fine and well! The biggest thrill in the walks was finding a Fliegenpilz one time and a seedling oak tree, both frequently featured as iconic to German culture. The oak seedling was, well, cute and must be a fine tree now, well over 50 years later! The Fliegenpilz surely has passed spores that triggered scores of generations in that same time.

    • It was a great day! I always feel best, emotionally, when rain renews the earth and birds migrate into or through my state. Being on the Central Flyway means an abundance of species, both temporary surprises and regular breeders here in Nebraska. Of course, the Sandhill crane migration through this state is a world event.
