27Mar26: reflections…

It is a quiet, sunlit morning where and when I write. Andy purrs softly while eating his treats, and I pause to thank Ye Gods.(insert whatever, whomever, or…your choice) for a wonderful morning..that followed with a call from my tax preparer telling me one document he needed was missing. I looked, no document.

Now I’m in a black mood! Damn it!

My mood quickly changed when Bill, my tax preparer, guided me through the process of retrieving a copy of the missing form. This extra special care is why I continue with the tax preparer I do.

World Cup time coming again. I had a difficult time watching it because I often supported both teams playing specific specific matches.. (2010? I think it was.)

I’m not a huge fan, but I enjoy the heart and compassion of “football” – Yeah! Yeah! I know! – and am pleased more and more schools feature it in their sports departments. I think I would have enjoyed playing it back in the days before dirt was invented!

So, the February page from the 2011 calendar I had made of favorite Louie photos popped up during my tax document search.

Louie was a very Kool Kat I named after another very Kool Kat, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. What’s that have to do with “Danmark,” a Kool small European country and this business of a hint of a ginger tabby cat blocking a goal while a suspiciously laughing cat in Danish colors observes and cheers for Danmark? (Think of that French Laughing  Cow fromage.) I think it was my team of the day, and they played well, but not against any of the other teams I wanted to win, against all probability since only one…yeah! Crazy, I know! But it must have been a very satisfying game to prompt this dreamscape!

FIFA World Cup has been ruined for me this year. I may try to watch the mess tied to US  venues by US politics. Shxt. The same for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US. I just hope the US survives the year!

Louie had a magnificent tail. I miss him. He died on 1 August 2011. When I picked up his ashes later that month, Tara, one of the veterinarian techs, brought out wee Andrew, a weirdly cute Persian kitten. Would I be interested in having him? Awwww! He walked right over to me, something he does with people even to this day to decide what to make of them. I began the next phase of kitty living that moment.
Dougy came a week later, and l had the same reaction. What do you do if you are clueless about how to raise one kitten? Get a second one! Ha! And a book titled
“Kittens for Dummies.” (Dougy didn’t read the book, so never learned he was supposed to stop scratching furniture when I used the book’s methods.)
I’m fascinated by these images doubled in the mirror. I know Andy must have some thoughts about his image in the mirror, too, because I have seen him staring at himself before

“Who is that handsome kitty? I wonder if he likes Greenies as much as I do. Does he know the same neighborhood kitties that come to my door? That squirrel? Those cottontails? All those birds? Ho-hum! Time for a nap.”

I tried to. Fish tacos and a taste test on French fries of two brands of Currywurst sauce. The fish tacos need a little more thought and my “failproof” method of identifying which sauce was which (initial for each brand) got messed up in moving to the table. I think “H” is a bit more spicey and thicker than “Z”, making “H” the winner. We’ll try some future test to confirm. European ketchup is thinner than US ketchup, so clings less well to “stuff.” I’ve no strong preference either way. I do like German “Senf” (mustard) better, though all mustards in the US aren’t the classic yellow mustard typically slathered on hotdogs. Everywhere the French mustard… of course! That is, I think, the srandsrd. Why else would people try to emulate it?

The seal on
)Greenies is a toy to Andy. I don’t play with it much or leave it where he can get it. Trash is best. Looks like a veterinarian’s house payment or down payment on a car to me!

=(^+^)=

I tried the street taco sauce by dipping a knife in it and tasting a tiny bit. Classified by the Mexican producer as green Chile and mild, I won’t fall for that a second time! Ha!

A Chicago chef (Rick Bayliss) with a classic Mexican restaurant featuring cuisine usually not prepared in my country, had a television show where he made food without the so much fire, just seasoning mere mortals can handle.

    • Though they are due 15 April 3very year, one can get extensions to complete them up till the next October. I imagine people with returns a lot more complex than mine need that extra time. I’m just waiting for a document from Social Security for tax guy Bill to complete, explain, have me sign, and send it to Internal Revenue.

  1. Doug… one of the nicest parts of my day… to learn what you and Andy are doing… and too your family and friends… we are a nicel little community here… thanks to each one!!… Feels as tho we are all sitting down together to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry. Doug, you mention the German curry ketchup.. reminding me of Hengstenberg pickled sliced beets… i order them cases at a time.. so delicious. We can never go wrong with these good foods. Louie was a great companion; i’m sure you miss him.. as we miss all of our little ones who have gone on before us. Trusting you will continue to have good rest and recuperation today and thru the upcoming weekend… best love to you and Andy…

    • We ARE a wee family here! I look forward to everyone’s comments, blogs.

I love pickled beets, incidentally, and will try the brand you mention. Some brands I tried here fell well short of my late Mom’ pickled beers, and, like the Currwurst mit Kartoffelsalat quest, there’s the pickled beet one, thanks to a renewal prompted by your comment!!

      Thanks!

      Doug

  2. Aww, I wish I had known Louie. I love a ginger tiger cat (my Sunny was one!) because they have such mellow, sweet personalities. I am glad the universe gave you Andy and Dougy, though.

I understand why we must pay taxes, but why can’t we have a flat tax where everyone simply pays 15 percent of their income and screw all the forms and deductions? The ridiculous number of documents one must keep for the taxman doesn’t prevent wealthy corporations from shifting their money overseas and avoiding paying their share of revenue. I can’t remember the millionaire who said it didn’t seem fair his administrative assistant paid more in taxes than he did percentage wise, simply because the tax code gave him more ways to deduct. (Warren Buffet?) Anyway, I hope once you’ve cleared the tax hurdle you can sit back and enjoy springtime. You’re supposed to be recuperating from surgery!

    • Yes, ginger tabbies may not be recognized as a separate breed of cat, yet they all seem to be characters, lovers of their people, comedians, very intelligent, fun cats to live with!

As for taxes, you and I know the tax codes are in place to assure the richest get to keep more mon
Ey and pay fewer dollars into the treasury. We get tiny benefits sometimes for these rich guy scam loopholes, but that might be an accident. Elizabeth Warren’s proposal to force the upper class to pay a percentage of their total net worth (or however she put it) also sounds like an unpopular way …for them…to pay what they could to help middle and lower class taxpayers’
taxes from always being diverted into the ultrarich
      s’
pockets. Even then, they’d have their hundreds of millions and billions of $$$ under her proposed law.

    • I hate to admit it, but it is a lot like my stream of thought chats. Either
I’m on the edge of dementia
or have always been on of those endlessly fascinated fellows who can’t filter or edit his thoughts. Ha! I AM a talker. It is a Thomas family trait. Quiet till you mention one of a million topics we find interesting!. I try to cool it here, yet….

    • My tax guy knows I’m mildly disabled. He
Actually goes from one side of Alliance to my side helping others like me finish their tax work. It’s a good reason to stay with this company. Besides, I get larger amounts back than other preparers got me. Big amounts
      !

      Doug

  3. Wow, Louie did have quite an amazing tail! So nice you found adorable kittens Andy and Dougy so soon after Louie had to leave. Oh yeah, tax prep can be quite a nuisance, even with the help of a preparer. We were self-employed, which made it so much worse. We actually still are, as we can’t afford to “retire”, but the amounts are so low now that the preparer often advises that we don’t have to file …

    • Yes, re
member when one could do a. 1040EZ, a simple postcard (!) form if you didn’t have much income or any investments, etc
      ?
