Gad! What an ordeal it was getting Andy and Dougy to the veterinarian’s this morning! Dougy put up some resistance, but Andy put me through a 25 minute marathon, and we (he and I) were not amused! Damn cat!
Then Andy was growly at the veterinarian’s, and it took a technician and me to hold him down. He was growling and trying to get away, something he never does. Well, up till now. Bad boy! Between us, we held him down and calmed him down. The irony, of course, was this brouhaha was so we could get his blood pressure check taken.
Blood pressure. Mine surely is up. Andy’s, however, is where it should be. Good!
Dougy has a feline herpes virus that causes him some left eye issues from time to time. It isn’t too bad this time, but his doctor wants him to take Lysine to build up his immune system. Fortunately, both boys can have it — and benefit from it — so both boys will get a dose of this paste each day.
When they were kittens, Andy had to eat Lysine in his wet food. Unfortunately, it was in a tablet form and had to be mashed up and mixed in with his food. The boys never have been really good about eating all of their wet food, so he never got maximum benefit from it. I am hopeful this new paste form will be more to their liking.
They trimmed a little hair off the under side of the base of Andy’s tail to get his blood pressure. He was exceptionally pissed and clawful about that! When we got home he gave particular attention to that trimmed spot, even though they cleaned off the goo needed to make good contact with his tail to get the reading.
Of course, they also got their rabies vaccinations, the primary reason for being there today. While we were at it, they also got another one that would have been given in February. After today’s hassles, it made sense to add on another reason to come in in October. Ugh! I can’t handle the stress!
Andy’s being very nice now. Watching out the back window from atop my mini-stereo, he gets a good view of the backyard birds that make use of a fir tree.
No idea where Dougy is. Sleeping it off somewhere, I suppose. As usual, he whined on the way down and the way back, though he was a reasonably good boy at the clinic, if you ignore the fact he tried to hold onto the carrier with his claws instead of come out of the carrier to be set on the examination table. Compared with Andy’s performance, though, Dougy was an angel.
Not that bad for all the services we got for two cats, and I got a front row seat to the spectacle!
Could be worse…glad it’s over 😉
Exactly! I was afraid Andy’s blood pressure would be too high, based on how grumpy he was, but it was right where it needs to be for a kitty!
You do make it sound like it was worse for you than him… so take it easy 🙂
I spent 25 minutes trying to catch him, so I feel I had a rougher time of it than Andy that day. All he had to do was lie there, and let the technicians and veterinarian do their exams and vaccinations. 🙁
Hahaha… he’ll tell you lying there is a tall order 😀 hahaha! Donna gets these strange fears at times too.
Andy generally is very quiet on the examination table, and Dougy usually gets up and hops over the side because he wants to examine the examination room! This latest trip to the veterinarian’s was the boys at their worst behavior. Usually, they are very good when out in public. (Tell Donna the boys aren’t afraid of lightning and thunder, except when they are really, really close!)
Fun and games at the vets. hahaha Kali who is as placid as can be can really turn at the vets…especially a harsh spoken man. I told the vet she was so laid back and relaxed…..then it took two techs and the vet to try and give her a deworming pill. Finally, he said< "Oh here, you give it to her when you get home." I changed vets.
Hey! I use that stuff for my cats! It’s awesome! However they sometimes get a “crazies” reaction. They feel like a super cat and go chasing all over the place. Then pass out for 12 hours. (Fun to watch) 🙂
That sounds like a desirable result to me. Only, I won’t notice any difference from the usual because that’s pretty much the routine now! Ha!
LOL! Too true. 🙂
It does make a difference! Around here, veterinarians make their money taking care of farm and ranch animals, primarily cattle, and the small animal trade is secondary in their interests. Fortunately, the one I go to likes the small animal trade, and the boys are cooperative with him.
You are lucky. In my area I have the one and only small animal vet within 60 miles. He’s great. But when he’s on vacation, for an emergency it’s the local horse doctor. 🙂
So far, I’ve been able to get my cats to the veterinarian I like when they most needed a small animal veterinarian for care. One other veterinarian at the clinic probably would be OK (for my cats and me) since I used to live across the street from him. They had two cats, and the cats were well cared for.
The things we do for our children. 😉
How true…! How True!
Wow, that is crazy. You probably all had to take a nap when you got home!
I made a stew, had some, then fell asleep in my chair. As soon as I finish responding to comments, I’m going to bed…early! Yeah, it was very tiring. Andy must known he was over the line behaviorally because he was a real suck up when we got home. Ha!
Ali gets L-lysine every day to build up her immune system also and thank god she eats it mixed in with her wet food. I pour the powder from the cap sure into her food over the day and not all at one time and this is with ok form our vet. Easier to hide this way.
Not bad vet bill for all that was done.
You and the boys have a good week end coming up way to fast.
Thanks! Having this out of the way, I will have a good week. I’m sure the boys have a similar attitude! No, I was surprised the bill was that little, too. I’ve had worse. We’ll see how the L-lysine goes with them. I hope it has a nice flavor or something that they like at least…!
