Above, my late friend, Ralph, examines an elf house in the Palatinate Woods, south of Kaiserslauten, Germany, in 1971. As you might expect, elfen magic hides them from human view, but if you have a bit of the Spirit of Hallowe’en left over, you won’t need the yellow arrow to see one of the wee forest dwellers.
In the lovely village of Hunawihr, circa 1972, my friend Deborah asked if she could borrow my Nikon camera to take some photos. She came back after a time, returned the camera to me, and this was one of the charming images that I found on the developed film.

I came across these two images when I Googled “Beethovenstrasse”, the street where I shared an apartment with two friends in Kaiserslautern, Germany. I don’t know how Google determines where images get stored, but I was especially pleased to see these again! I decided I’d take a Sunday off and share them with you on WordPress.
Here’s a earlier photo of Andy doing what I intend to do today: Get comfortable and take a nap! Don’t worry. Persian lips hide toothies sometimes. Andy has all his teeth except a lower incisor that was removed because it was rubbing against the upper canine showing in the photo! Those teeth had been so crowded that when the incisor was removed, I couldn’t tell where it had been. (A silly thought: Andy didn’t need a tooth removed, he needed braces! LOL!)
Thanks fur sharing those bw photos, Mr. Doug. I think the doggy at my household barks sometimes ’cause she hears fairies in Mom’s garden. Andy is lucky to have his fangs all still long and pointy. Three of mine got chipped over the years.
Andy likes his Greenies and the product seems to make a difference in kitty boy dental health.
Doug, thanks for these Wonderful photographs from two of my favorite years: 1971 and 1972. I also quite enjoyed thinking about braces on that handsome kitty, and elfen magic.
Our late great cat Loqui (though she preferred that we spell it Loki) would follow me from room to room all day long. When I would write anything on the computer, she always jumped into a Chewy.com box located between keyboard and monitor in the way most cats prefer cardboard boxes — a tad too small. Over time Loki would also edit my work, finding the shortcut keys that allowed her to make powerful edits — such as Select All, followed by tapping her paw on the Delete key. A rescued cat who had just lost her mother to an automobile accident, she lived to a very advanced age. Of course, your inclusion of a larger Chewy.com box triggered these fond memories 🙂
Andy has good taste in selecting proper resting spaces 🙂
An adage: An empty cardboard box is filled with a cat in the earliest possible nanosecond.
Andy gets in the way while I open a box, and hops in as soon as the flap are folded back!
Best uses for an extra hour there are – memories and naps !

I scanned them from prints a long time ago. They were on my PC hard drive, then the PC crashed. A lot of old photos show up on Google searches. The elf photo showed up on a Google search for the Palatinate Forest’s German name. I was looking for Pfaelzerwald spelled with the umlauted “a” so I didn’t have to spell it with the “ae” combination in this sentence. For the fun of it, if you don’t know what those two dots over vowels in German words are called, here it is: diacritical marks. The double “s” – ß – in words like “Straße” is called an “Eszett”. I understand it is becoming rare to use that one.
Whew! When I get off track, I get off track! Anyway, the photos took me back to a happy time in Germany and France!

Yes, he does have a Hallowe’enish look about him! It’s weird how his lips will hide one or the other top canine that way.
