Andy is enjoying his recliner when…

…he sees his photo on Doug’s coffee mug.

That’s Dougy on the other side.
=(^+^)=

Old photos evoke memories, some good, others sad, sometimes just a mystery. Who is that? Why are they on horses? Is that when we took the fated trip to California? Or maybe it’s Idaho. How can one confuse the two? From the sad birthday celebration faces, that must have been during WWII….
Then, my Seattle sister sends this face from the past! Yes, that had to have been shortly after I got out of the US Army. After three years of short haircuts, I let the hair go. I have straight hair – or “had hair then” – that got like this when I worked as a vulcanizer operator on the night shift at the hose plant. It was hot, nasty work. When I had a chance to move into a quality control job, it was a no brainer!
I’m reasonably sure I got the time the photo was taken right because I’m not the svelte fellow who came out of the US Army in the photo but the chubby one who, by then, was eating homecooked meals and sharing a beer or two after work with friends. It took a few months to get into that state!
Happy Father’s Day to a wonderful cat daddy!
Thanks!
Yes, I get this feeling every morning when I open my eyes to see my father’s (May he rest in peace) portrait and his lovely shining smile. It is especially poignant on Father’s Day.
Happy Kitty Father’s Day, Doug.
Yes, that’s the way it is for me, too. I used to be able to talk out problems I had with him and gain from his wisdom.
I am generally not inclined to talk out my problems with family or friends, but I basked in the warmth of his kindness whenever I felt down.
I have always enjoyed photography because it is great for helping me remember things. I like looking at old photos and reminiscing.
Exactly.
Happy father’s day to a terrific cat dad. Did not realize you had a near death experience at the “Hose” only knew you as a QC (and a good one at that may I add)
Thanks! Yes, the lid knocked a huge hole in the roof when it blew and came down in a basket of hose the hydrotester had just reached into for his next length to test. This was in the front part of the building, that vulcanizer. Hydrotest used to be a few feet to the east of that, running north and south.
Happy Cat Father Day, Doug! That is a nice photo of you from back then. Working in a hose plant in the vulcanization process sounds unhealthy. Glad you moved out and up to a QC position!
Seeing oneself in old photos is a form of time travel, I suppose, and it is quite interesting to look back. I have one photo of me at 5 years old sitting with my aunt’s cocker spaniel named Taffy. For some reason I liked to wear mesh onion sacks on my head, like a weird form of elf hat. I was wearing my onion sack hat in that photo. The dog and I both sported toothy grins. I was never a conformist. 🙂
Back then, working in a hose plant involved solvent fumes that were the worst hazard. The vulcanizer blew up on me, thanks to a faulty “safety” valve when another fault allowed steam pressure to build up. I survived with steam burns on my chest down to my groin. It could have been a factory fatality very easily.
Yes, time travel indeed! I forgot how I looked then since there aren’t many photos of me in the 1970s since I was the fellow with the fancy Nikons. I did most of the photos at family get togethers and other events.
That sounds like a very cute photo!
You look good in the photo, Doug! Happy cat daddy day, sir! ❤️
Thanks, John!
You’re welcome, Doug!
Old photos are such fun! An enjoyable look back, and what a 😎 cool coffee mug!
That one featured a photo that I used on a post card that looked ok, if not great, because it was taken before I had a camera with editing features. It was too dark, taken in the inevitable low light in this part of the apartment. On the plus side, it has a Halloweeny quality on the cup that makes it kind of ok.
Weggie loooks sooooo silky soft & handsome in the pics!
I have old pics of me as a 26yr old size 8 blonde bombshell.. no one believes it’s me (60yr old fat hag… I swear, I sometimes see a Disney witch in the mirror!).
I’m “weggieboy” in the title, unfortunately, since I created the nickname in reference to WG/GPA, a disease I have and before I made the connection with sound alike “wedgieboy” – look it up! I’m trying to slowly change the name of the blog to eliminate any confusion.
Yes, Andy is looking really prime just now. There is a point after he has a grooming session where he begins to acquire the look of his Persian breed and the fur pattern called “smoke”. Andy is a purebred smoke Persian kitty. Those silver highlights in his darker hair are what makes him that. Incidentally, he is very soft to the touch, silky being a perfect way to describe him.
The photo of me was taken 50 years ago. I can appreciate how you feel looking at yourself in early photos!
Wow! You look so different! Happy father’s day to a wonderful cat dad!
Well, it was 50 years ago….!
WHAT AN ALMOST CHUBBY CUTIE YOU USED TO BE!
HAPPY CAT’s FATHERS DAY TO YOU.
LOL! Thanks!
Happy CAT DADDY day ~ am sure Mr Andy and Mr Doug are very happy to have you!
Sadly, Dougy died three years ago on 14 July 2020
They do stir memories
It’s Father’s Day in the USA, so the old photos come out.
