Andy stood by while Dougy, the bad kitten, started his career as a destroyer of furniture.

Andy (left) and Dougy rarely appeared in the same photo. Here, they were waiting for me to open a box. Cats, you know!

Oops! Andy beat Dougy into this box and there was a brouhaha to settle which cat got it. Possession changed several times till I opened another box that came that day.

Andy got the arm and Dougy got the seat. Now, Andy prefers the recliner footrest most days and nights.

You know this photo of the kitty brothers, of course. Dougy (left) and Andy mostly played well together. Disputes always were about territory. Dougy was especially territorial.

On the 14th of July three years ago, Dougy died. Andy must smell his late brother on Dougy’s most seriously defended territory – and most abused piece of furniture! – the ottoman because he wouldn’t get on it until I put a lapboard on it. With the lapboard in place, Andy spends lots of time there, though he does split his time between the recliner, end table, and ottoman.

Andy and his late brother both were typically curious about their human’s food and drink. Andy’s sniffing my water in this photo.
Neither Andy nor Dougy like or liked being held for long but both love, love, love or loved being “scritched”! I think they resisted being held because as kittens they both had diarrhea that got in their Persian “floof”. You know what that meant for the kittens! Baths! Of course, to give them baths, I had to pick them up and hold them in the water, then hold them after to wrap them in a towel to absorb most of the water out of their fur.
=(^+^)=
There’ve been several new readers of this blog in recent weeks. It seemed important to me to do this little back story to catch the new people up on the kitten brothers shown in my heading photo. Dougy died shortly after their ninth birthday. Though I asked for a post mortem to learn if there was any cause that might affect Andy, none was done. Consequently, I never learned what caused his death. Frankly, I’m still pissed some that it wasn’t done since I signed a paper requesting it, but it slowly becomes less important. I still have Andy, of course. Andy is a sweety and thriving at age 12.
It is bittersweet to see them together. They were The Adorables!
That they were. I can look at those videos and photos now and enjoy the memories. Bittersweet? Yes.
I have followed for years, but I enjoyed the flashback. Happy 4th!
Yes, you are one of the early ones! Thanks for that!
The two of them made a great pair! You and Andy both have memories of Dougy cat.
I remember the lack of closure regarding Dougy’s death. Early in the pandemic, there was a fair amount of upheaval and change in both veterinarian and human medical offices. But as the saying goes, there may be reasons, but not excuses. Even these days, when it is far easier than 3 years ago, for just about any business I have to constantly follow through and stay on top of things. Seems to be a sign of the times.
The I agree. I think quality of service is seriously diminished. I cancelled two auto-shipments from Chewy, one on the website and a second by calling their support line after the first one came anyway (though I canceled it before it was too late to cancel!). I was assured the second one was canceled before I got off the phone. It arrived a few days later! II now have two shipments (48 cans of prescription kitty food plus 13 of the reason I canceled in the first place – I didn’t need more just then. At $144 (food x 2 plus s&h) per shipment, all coming at the end of a month where I already was running low of liquid funds, thanks to another screw up on a VISA card where I asked them to debit half because of Chewy and other unexpected expenses and they debited half one day, then the other half that I couldn’t afford to have debited just then because my rent would wipe out my checking account if processed early. Gad!
I am finding autoships are much harder to manage and I can end up with too much food and too high a bill, not offset by the savings on the autoship. I do understand it helps them figure out how much stock to keep on hand, and it can help me to stock food ahead in case of shortages. The cost of food has skyrocketed though. The balance is starting to tip towards just ordering as needed.
That’s what I’m thinking, too. The autoship didn’t make up for the chaos it caused with my finances.
Same here. And, the continual supply chain shortages, and changing needs of the cats as they age. Nano has shown up with CKD now (he is 17) and we are going through much research and trying different prescription foods.
I’ve found out other people have similar stories about auto ship and auto debit accounts. There seem to benefit the businesses more than the customers.
Ah yes, what a beautiful throw back!
Thanks!
Awww, a sweet look back.
I like doing this from time to time.
I would Follow Up on that Post Mortem if you really want to know. It’s not right, they never followed through.
He died three years ago. Any findings, if done, don’t make any difference. I didn’t complain at the time, but I assure you that one screw up is all I allow when I spend the kind of money I do at that clinic.
That was MY boy!
Yeah, he was a fun kitty, ornery as heck but a comedian.
it means fur-nitures so… wel LOL
LOL Dougy was unrepentant, a true reprobate. On the day he died, he scratched at the ottoman.
That was a good slice of history for me
Much like the links inside your posts to earlier posts! I enjoy looking back at those, too.
