21Jan25: responsible citizenship…

I decided I should witness the presidential transfer of power events even though I don’t support the felon fellow taking over.
Andy had other plans for me.
I chose c-span because commercial station commentators tend to talk over things they feel are less important for viewers to hear. You know, like the things more important than their chatter.
It pisses me off when they do that, almost as much as when a kitty wants my attention when I’m forcing myself to participate, peripherally, in what feels like an act of responsible citizenship.
Andy persists….
He gives me “kitten eyes.”
“Aw shit, Andy! I’m trying to watch the inauguration of that felon fellow. It’s historic, genuinely a first in our country’s history.”

=(^+^)=

Shortly after Andy got his way, there was a parade of former presidents into the Capitol rotunda to clownish music played by the US Marine band. It was unsettling.

Other notables got more seemly music, nice bouncy martial music. (No, they did not goose step! Be nice!)

Then, there was a pleasing interval of Classical music, followed by some vocal music with patriotic themes.

The old president got the “Hail to the Chief ” fanfare one final time.

I waited for what the new old president would get.

The new vice president guy got a bouncy Souza march fanfare – nice! – then the new old president got patriotic hymn-like music for his entrance and the usual applause and calls of “USA! USA!”

The rest happened. Quite an improvement over 2021!

“Hey, Andy! That’s what’s-her-name,
our state’s senior senator!”

20Jan25: training Andy to tolerate the brush…

Andy would endure me dealing with his mats better if he let Mr brush him out.
I held him and brushed him before I took this photo.  While down there, later, he actually let me brush his chest and chin several times since it felt good to him.

I hope to get him used to all over brushing. Getting the loose hair off will help minimize mats and his misery when I work at removing them. Now, to convince Andy!
He feels softer when brushed out.
I sneaked a bit of brushing when he was on the recliner footrest and nodding off. He tolerated it well and may be closer to letting me brush him regularly than I thought!

=(^×^)=

Regular groomer appointment in past helped minimize mats. When Andy’s last groomer had to stop grooming because of a medical issue, it became problematic for me because she came to the door to pick up Andy to take him to her mobile grooming van.

Though other groomers are in the area, cat-trained groomers are rare. It became obvious Andy’s days of professional grooming likely were over.

I decided then to let him go natural Persian. That’s when not liking to be brushed and mats became a problem.

After pulling mats out over time, I decided I’d try catching and holding Andy to brush him out. Last night was the first time I actually got to brush him without him bolting off! Mats may be history or much fewer now

Andy and I would like that!

19Jan25: nice “after meal time”…

Clean-up requires lots of tongue!
Checking up for a mess on his chest.
Andy decides he’s clean enough!
Now, to stare at Doug!
Yeah! Doug got the hint!
Zzzz….

18Jan25: after a brouhaha we visited the vet’s…

Purr! Purr!
Andy purred – you know having a massage on his butt and back always are a treat!
Holly noted it also calms the kitty down before the thermometer insertion….
Andy survived temperature taking. Now to the scale.
Andy picked up a few ounces, proof the hyperthyroidism medication did the job.
Holly left for a moment. Andy used the moment to…
…hop down to get back in his carrier, the safe place while here!
Holly still needed Andy for  blood pressure checks.
Oh, well. Andy wanted to be in the carrier, so Holly played along.
Andy should have liked this blood pressure machine because they don’t have to shave a foot or on his tail like we they used to do.
Earlier, at home, Andy hid behind the recliner, trying to avoid capture…

=(^+^)=

…but I blindly reached between the recliner and the wall to capture him. I accidentally grabbed the tail end, not the head, and Andy valiantly defended himself. My hand lost.

=(^+^)=

On final medical news about my kitty, happy, too, that the heart murmur is better! He was a very good kitty for his visit today, but he is a good kitty!

=(^+^)=

It started to snow while Andy and and I were at the vet’s.

Not much to it so far. OK by me!

17Jan25: “…no food!”

Andy thinks there’s nothing to eat because he wanted the dry food, but I set out the wet food a few feet away. Poor kitty!!
Sad!
Pouting now. In a very dark place.
Despair!

=(^+^)=

The dry food bag is nearly empty. I put a half cup full in the bowl, and Andy won’t eat it all, most of it is wasted! It’s time to order another bag of it.

=(^+^)=

OK! OK! Fret not, dear reader! Andy will have a full bag of his favorite dry food by this coming Tuesday. The order is in.

16Jan25: a bad association…

Andy sees me coming into the kitchen on my walker.
He stays as long as he feels he can. He’s where I caught him twice today to give him medication!
Good move, Andrew, but I just came out to the kitchen for a snack!
Andy eventually returns…
—but he doesn’t quite believe the “snack” business. He’s ready to bolt if I move an inch.

15Jan25: all day…

This is about all Andy and I did today.
Good grief!

14Jan25: a very bad kitty…

Andy hid in the south bedroom yesterday. I saw him go into that room nearly two hours before the 8:30 veterinarian appointment, but hoped he’d come back out in time for me to put him in the carrier. He did not.

I looked and looked in that room for him starting 45 minutes before the appointment, without any luck.

A half hour before we were scheduled to be there, I called the clinic to let them know there was a strong chance we’d have to cancel because Andy was hiding so well.

I called the clinic again at 8:35. It was time to cancel and reschedule the appointment because I was so pissed by this time that I wanted to twist his little neck!

It seemed safer for him that I not have contact with him again Monday morning or bring him in later! We rescheduled for this coming Friday at 8:30.

Andy will be denied access to the south bedroom till after his appointment, damn cat!
Bad kitty!
Andy showed up well after the appointment time, of course.

13Jan25: Andy can’t believe it!

Andy can’t believe it, but this is the whole blog post for today.

=(^×^)=

Andy has a veterinarian follow-up appointment this morning. More about that tomorrow!

12Jan25: getting Andy’s attention…

He’s ignoring me.
Now, I think I can get his attention.
“Andy!” He responds to his name!
Yeah! This is what I wanted to do, Andy.
Sweet dreams!
