06Jun25: a surprise outside…

Andy sensed my elation!
Remember the heritage yellow climbing rose bush that got chopped out by the yard nazis?
Here, in the original place, a healthy, stealthy, reborn heritage yellow climbing rose sprouts from the wreckage!
Andy knows the resurrected rose is a mood changer for Doug.
Plus…with that, there’s the happy row of wee ones sprouting off the same root stock!
Nature shall prevail over the destruction of her best efforts. Andy agrees with that! In the meantime, mum’s the word.
I can count on Andy. Meow! Good kitty.

  1. My grandfather used to grow roses. He said that if you trim them back too far, they would grow back from the root rather than the cultivated part of the plant. Sounds like your plant is trying to get even with the over-zealous complex gardener.

  2. Who are the Yard Nazis? Is it their actual job to keep the yard area in check (and if so, do they ask people what they want to keep and what they want to get rid of)? Or are they just busybody randos who can’t mind their own business?

  3. I’m really curious to see what blooms from those new shoots! You probably know most modern roses are hybrids that are grown from grafted stock. If the top part gets cut down, the original base may take over and send up “suckers” that may or may not resemble the roses you had before. But clearly that is one tough rose! If it can survive Nebraska winters and getting chopped down by yard trolls, it should bloom anywhere!

    • It is a heritage rose that returns the same as before. Thos isn’t the first time it’s had rough treatment.

  4. Fabulous! Let’s hope those *(!#@$ don’t get it again. I know nothing about growing plants, but could you root one or two from a cutting in case they do get this one? Then if they cut it down again you could replant again, and again, and drive ’em bonkers … Such cute pics of Andy!
