15Jul21: Dougy

On this sad day one year ago, Dougy died. I named him after me, a family in joke too involved to explain. I don’t feel like telling a joke today anyway. He was a comedian, an explorer, a loveable kitty boy who is missed by his brother Andy and me each and every day.

  1. Even good anniversaries can be emotional sleigh rides, but sad ones are always tough. January 4th remains tough for me all these year later because of the loss of Clancy. So I understand how you feel.

    • So it is, they are. I have another one coming up on August 1, a 10th anniversary of the death of Louie the ginger cat, whose death opened the door to be given Andy and Dougy.

    • I was concerned I would be morbid about it, but I understand death is part of the process. While I miss Dougy a lot – he was ornery, but funny – something was wrong with him that made his life impossible to continue. I never learned what that was, and that has caused me some concern and stress because I would like to know that whatever happened happened for reasons other than anything I did or didn’t do.

  2. Anniversaries of a loved one’s passing are hard. I hope you are very kind to yourself today. I sometimes treat myself to a small ‘feast’ of favorite foods, like when people bring casseroles, pies and bars to your house right before a funeral. (That’s what they did in Minnesota, anyway.) It’s small comfort after a big loss, but food can remind you of the good times too. ((Hugs!))
