28Feb24: It was just a simple question…

“What’s up, Andy”

Andy ignored my question to…

…take care of important kitty business.

27Feb24: a fake out…

I put some Greenies out to entice Andy.

It’s working!

The wee rascal just faked me out!

Later, he returned…but to take a kitty bath. Double fake out.

26Feb24: asleep…

Asleep, all you see moving are Andy’s whiskers…and the cameraman’s wiggling the camera.

(I poke Andy sometimes to make sure he’s alive. Am I the only one who does this to his sleeping kitty? It’s alarming when a “floofy” kitty is asleep because you don’t always see breathing movements.)

25Feb24: trying to catch the cat….

Andy’s too “zoomie” at the moment to be interested in anything I can provide.

The trap.

A strange kitty on the television, too!

Andy’s interested finally and stops by.

Donna and the sweetie pie Tootsie. Donna hosted the Class of 1966 luncheon Friday and we had a fine time!

So did Tootsie!

24Feb24: crumbs….

Andy noticed something of interest on my lapboard – crumbs in an empty graham cracker wrapper!

He hops up on the lapboard and begins to help himself to the crumbs! If I don’t hold the board, he will spill out on the floor!

~ Nom! Nom! Nom! ~

~ Nom! Nom! ~

Andy licks the wrapper clean!

Today would have been my mother’s 110th birthday! She lived to be just days short of 99 years old and was coherent nearly till the last few days. She had a great sense of humor, a characteristic that she said got her through many rough times, like back and knee surgeries and raising four kids.

A polio victim as a child, she suffered a terrible, painful rehabilitation that lead her to a very active life swimming, playing field hockey, and other sports as a young woman.

She was active in the American Red Cross Life Saving program and taught hundreds if not thousands of children, adults, and disabled people to swim in a 60-year career as a swimming instructor. In recognition of her contribution to the community, she was given a citation by the city council and a lifetime free pass to the local swimming pool when she reached 50 years of giving swimming lessons. The local pool bath house was named in her honor, with a commemorative plaque placed on the front.

We were a family of six: Mom, Dad, two sisters, a brother, and yours truly, the wee rascal in this photo of Mom mixing cement in a wheelbarrow while I posed cutely for my Dad so he could take the photo. They built the home we grew up in.

23Feb24: a sleepy day….

Andy can’t believe Doug slept most of his day away. Neither can Doug! (I needed to catch up after a couple of weeks of not getting much rest.)

The Alabama Supreme Court ruling on embryos being children gave me pause. If so, then a fertilized chicken egg must be a chick. ~ Peep! Peep! ~

~ Shudder!

Thank your lucky stars if you don’t live in the USA these days.

A runza by any other name – cabbage burger is what I always called them – is a yummy meal. In my state, there is a fast food restaurant called “Runza”. Of course, they have the usual fast food items – onion rings, soft drinks, ice cream, hamburgers, and more – but the star of their menu is, no surprise, the runza. The day the chain announced they were putting one of their restaurants in my town was a huge deal.

I especially like their onion rings and a salad with cranberries and pecan meats, but their runzas are pretty average. I like best the homemade version with nice shreds of cabbage, recognizable pieces of onion, and a hamburger with a coarser texture than the restaurant’s. It seems like they run all the ingredients through a grinder, creating a smooth paste that probably cooks faster and more consistently than my homemade version. That said, theirs still is a yummy treat!

My Class of 1966 group meets today at noon for our monthly luncheon. I was going to make deviled eggs to take but the fear of boiling baby chicks alive – ahem, cough! cough! – was too grim a prospect so I baked an apple pie instead. The menu for today’s luncheon features fried chicken, damn carnivores that we are!

22Feb24: Andy is restless…

Andy wakes up…

from a deep sleep…

Nothing interesting on television.

So he cleans his “precious”…

…and goes back to sleep.

21Feb24: door time on a nice day….

Andy’s tired of this scene.

This has potential! And it’s a nice, warmish day today!

Andy’s a cat, so he chooses this perch though Doug purposely put the walker where it suited “His Highness” in past.

“Doug, did you know…”

“…the walker is a great perch…”

“…but I’m sitting on my wet food cans and I know where they are now!”

That noted, Andy shifted over to the walker.

He stayed there till someone passed down the lane in a loud car.

20Feb24: morning chores…

Lick~lick~lick!

“Must do a Greenies inventory.”

“Yep! There are some there!”

Having established there is a secure and adequate Greenies supply…

…Andy can go check out the kitchen and north bathroom cabinets for “mousies”. Andy is a busy kitty in the morning!

19Feb24: “No treats here, Doug.”

Andy knows where the Greenies are kept, so he hints that he wants some…now.

He pretends not to see there are leftover treats on the lapboard.

He looks around. “Where are the Greenies, Doug!?” he pleads.

Doug falls for the fake crisis and offers up some treats.

Doug’s spoiled kitty boy stuffs himself on Greenies!
