04Feb25: Does Andy sleep too much?

There is concern about all of the “sleeping Andy” photos I post.
In this unedited photo, Andy’s eyes are nearly closed, his expression suggests a problem, perhaps.
Hint! Hint! He enjoys a neck rub, and his eyes close in ecstacy!

Also, the places I frequently photograph him at are also among his favorites for sleeping.

Often, when I’m in places when Andy’s being cute and/or active, I don’t have my smartphone with me because I am notorious for misplacing it.

OK! This is how all photos of Andy look in this poorly lit part of the front room. (Notice that Andy is up and alert. I just called his name!)
After editing this photo, I noticed Andy was blurred. Had this been a typical blog post, I wouldn’t have saved the photo unless it was central to a story I was trying to tell photographically.

=(^+^)=

I appreciate the concern about Andy. I always share information about his health or issues at home because I know how blog pets become “ours” over time, and the people posting become blogger friends.

Gunnar

That noted, Swedish blogger Gunnar Carlstedt’s death notice was posted yesterday on Facebook, WordPress, and other formats.

Gunnar was one of my favorites. He posted in Swedish, English, and Italian, the latter a language he decided to learn later in life. He was an educator both as a profession during his work life and in retirement.

His cheery posts lightened my days during this tricky time in the USA.

I will miss this brilliant and upbeat man.

RIP, Gunnar. You were a “mensch” as I understand that term, the best of people.

My condolences to Gunnar’s family. Know that people around this world are sad today because Gunnar passed.

    • Most of all, I was concerned readers were concerned since Andy does have two medical issues that are controllable with a little medication that has shown to be working as hoped.

  1. Sorry for the loss of your friend. My cat Freddie spooks me. I see him soundly sleeping and walk past and do some things and feel as if someone is watching me, I look over at Freddie and there he is now wide awake watching me. His sister Tish also does things like one moment she is asleep almost dead to the world and the next I am walking and suddenly she zooms between my feet. Makes me crazy every time,

    • LOL! There is a cat tree next to my bedroom door. When I wake up, I sit briefly on the edge of the bed to assure I’m stable enough to stand, I hear a thump outs8de my door. It’s Andy hopping onto the top of the cat tree. The expectation is that the first thing I’ll do each day is boop his nose, greet him with a “Meow! Hello Andy!”, then massage him up and down his back, neck, head, and ears till he is satisfied. I know the situation you mention.

  2. I have the same cat issues you do. The best (and most clear) photos I have are of my cats sleeping or almost sleeping. My cats are too old for the cute kitten pictures of tumbling and climbing so I get what I get.

    • When I did videos, the cute stuff was possible. The photo at the top of my posts is a screenshot from a video called “Grass” where Andy is stalking his brother, Dougy. If you go to phainopepla 95 on YouTube, that’s where my kitty videos of the brothers and Louie my late ginger cat are. The phainopepla 95 is my identity on YouTube.

Yeah, photographing even a slower, older cat still is a trick!

    • Andy is more active than my photos show, but one has to realize I get around with a walker, so I’m less active or able to catch him doing his kitty thing.

Gunnar was an inspirational person for his cheery posts and his love of learning. He was an educator by profession, so that probably was what took him that route through life.

  3. I’m sorry about your friend, Doug, it’s sad to see our friends leave us. 🙏🏻✝️ Andy sleeps as much as any cat I’ve ever seen, hugs for you, Andy! ❤️😊😻

    • Yes, and the longer one lives, the more that pass. One isn’t and less sad, though, because so much ends with each passing. Long phone calls, fun adventures, the end of new memories, a sharing of one’s day…. I enjoy blogging and other activities in my personal life that keep me from becoming isolated from life, though, because I am a quiet person by nature and thst’s precisely how I would go if I didn’t consciously work at being social!

    • I totally agree, Derrick. I’ve tried to let people aware of my hospitalizations, for example. The last hospitalization a therapies lasted two months. Once I had my phone, I could communicate directly with people on this blog, but before that, my friend Chris in Texas posted for me. I’m not sure how it came about, but he definitely was a friend when I needed one! Yes, we became friends through our cat blogs!

    • Wow! Best wishes for Washe cat! I was unaware you had that senior a kitty. It’s hard to tell from photos you post of Washe.

Andy can be moody, too, though he’s always been a bit that way, even as a kitten. His late brother Dougy was more of a comedian kitty, more playful.

  4. I view Gunnar precisely that way. You put it better than I did.

I totally agree with the nap business being more restorative than lazy. I need them myself and my body sometimes determines I’m kidding myself uf I try to stay awake when that nap us its priority! Specifically, I crash. When it happens, I need to be near my bed, a bed, or I will end up asleep where I am.

  5. I wasn’t familiar with Gunnar, but anyone in our age group who remains curious and open to learning new things is a light that will be missed.

I thought sleeping was a cat’s natural state of being! All of my cats, when they weren’t zooming around the house or chasing catnip mice under the fridge, slept like logs. (A couple of them snored like they were sawing them, too.) Woe betide the person whose lap they fell asleep on, because that human wasn’t going anywhere soon. I think we could learn something from Andy and his feline brethren: if you’re going to nap, commit to it and sleep like it’s the most important thing you’re going to do all day. Don’t scroll on your phone, or half watch TV. Snoozing isn’t lazy, it’s restorative! 😺

  6. I’m sad to learn about the loss of Gunnar, blogging buddies become real friends and are greatly missed. Such cute pictures of Andy! Wide awake kitties may be too active to always be in good focus!

    • Yes, and, as I noted, his upbeat posts were helpful on bad days.

There is truth on the matter I f active kitties are hard to take in ficus photos of!
