18Oct24: falling behind…

This is “so yesterday”…

Is this one, too?

I bought gas yesterday at $3.579 a gallon. It costs 10 cents a gallon more if you use a credit card. I use a credit card because it saves a lot of hassles with a walker and getting in and out of my car with oxygen. It seems the station’s policy for using a credit card costs disabled persons yet another discrimatory penalty in their lives.

Andy says he’s not cooperating. If I can’t do my blog in a timely fashion, blurred kitty and reused photos is my fate.

  1. A number of places have slapped on fees for credit cards around here, but not for the use of debit cards. I think iut has to do with processing fees. either way it’s pain in the keister if all you have on you is a credit card. And I agree, it does seem discriminatory.

  2. That is unfair. I keep joking I want to move to New Jersey because it is illegal for us to pump our own gas there. There are only a couple places in my area that pump for you.

    • I remember when the service station, aptly named, gassed the car, checked the tires and oil levels, washed all the windows, AND gave you plates or other things like S&H Green Stamps that were redeemable for lots if nice things.

  3. We don’t have that at the gas stations yet but most restaurants charge an extra 3% if you use a card. I was in a non-food store that did the same thing. Seems like we are going backward. I rarely carry much cash on me these days, preferring to use a card. Now I have to rethink that. I didn’t connect the extra cost to a person with disabilities but I can see that.

  4. 45 yrs ago in Minnesota it was illegal for a business to pass on the banks 8% credit card fee to customers. So our family run bait and tackle store gave an eight % ‘discount’ to cash customers ! It was all in the wording that made it ok 😉

  5. wow… we have the opposite… the stores often want only cards and no cash… and so we wait and see how our ice cream melts like the wicked witch in the dorothy movie, while the man in front of us tries 87 cards and 186 pins…
