05Nov24: busy day; lazy day…

Monday was very busy, with Andy and I going to his veterinarian for a follow-up.

Dr. Olenick showed us a better way to burrito wrap a cat to medicate him, and Andy got put on blood pressure medication.

A check of his eyes and kidneys showed the high blood pressure hadn’t affected either hus kidneys or eyes, a bit of good news!

I had to stay awake long enough to receive my own medications, three of which I’ve been trying to get filled since a week ago last Friday. (My pharmacy has high turnover, it seems, and customer service sometimes goes to crap!!)

When the medication was delivered, as usual, UPS/FedEx/USPS – one of them – had delivered three packages and didn’t ring the bell to let me know the packages were sitting out in broad daylight, waiting to be stolen. Drives me nuts!

Deliveries and cat health taken care of, I fed Andy and took a long nap.

  1. It’s good that Andy is doing okay. No one rings the doorbell on delivery now. If you set up an account with the shippers, you’ll get a text when the package is delivered. With Amazon, you can request the doorbell ring on the delivery when you buy it.

    • I was concerned when I heard Andy had really high blood pressure. I’ve wondered in past if the process if taking his blood pressure was a contributing factor. I mentioned that to his veterinarian, and she said they have a less upsetting method now. I haven’t seen it, but it sounded like the animal stands on a pad that measures their blood pressure, if I heard correctly. If that isn’t how it’s done, some “clever monkey” should invent such a tool!

  2. When I lived in a house there were a few times where they didn’t ring the bell and the package was left on the steps overnight. Now I’m living in a condo it’s better. I get a call on my phone to let them in the building. Glad you had some good news with Andy’s blood pressure.

    • Yes, I’ve had packages sit outside in inclement weather overnight, too. Thatwsd what prompted me to make and post a sign pointing toward the doorbell and asking the delivery persons to push it with a finger when they made a delivery.

  3. Glad Andy is doing well. Sorry about your issues with your pharmacy. I gave up on mail order years ago because there is a local pharmacy that is pretty trustworthy. Sitting out in the sunshine is not good for meds in several ways.

    • That’s a fact. I get lots of things from them since going to stores is a major complicated process with a walker and oxygen. Some stores, too, put the handicap parking quite far from the main door. I avoid those stores.

  4. I’m glad that Andy doesn’t have any issues due to high BP, Doug. These drivers need to let the human inside know that they have a delivery, shame on them! Porch pirates suck, I’ve been ripped off like that…

  5. They don’t ring the doorbell here either. I don’t worry about theft as much as weather. Our front porch area isn’t covered so if it’s raining the package gets soaked. Nothing worse than an 87 thousand pound Chewy box soaked.

  6. we are glad the meds were still there and they can start to help now … I hate this way of delivery… we had a box with canned food in the pouring rain, I lifted it up and the whole crap landed on my feet… uuuuh!!!!!

  7. The very least the delivery driver/mail carrier could do is ring the doorbell after dropping one’s packages on the doorstep. (And I do mean ‘drop:’ there have been days where it sounds like the box was hurled against the door. If it’s books, there’s usually no harm done, though there’s a large scratch on my front door. But if it’s something in a bottle like meds or toiletries I pray they weren’t broken.) Anyway, good to know you and Andy are okay. Maybe you could ask Andy’s vet to care for you! 😸

    • One of my fave deliveries involved the guy not ringing the doorbell, but calling. He only spoke Spanish and all I understood was “puerta”. I went outside and he was on the sidewalk, where he handed me my pkg, then showed me his phone… there had been a big skunk on the porch, which freaked him out!

    • One time,
I bought a high rent computer monitor for nearly $600. When UPS delivered it, they “disguised” it by putting it behind my trash barrel. The intent was good, but it happened to be trash day! I got home minutes before the trash was picked up.
