19Dec24: pleasing Andy…

You think he’s sleeping.
No, he’s watching me closely!
“Want your chin rubbed?”
No, turns out he wants an ear rub!
Purr! Purr!
Andy’s a happy boy!
Now he’s really sleeping!

=(>+<)=

Andy’s world just shrunk by two rooms. From now on, the south bedroom door will always be closed.  Andy has evaded medication time there twice yesterday, having found a way to avoid me when I try to find him to give him medications. This isn’t a new problem for me. The second room he is forbidden to have access to now is my bedroom, the door to which will always be closed except when I’m in there sleeping. He can come in to look out the window when I’m in there, but only then. There are too many places he can use to avoid me in that room as well. These changes are totally because I am physically unable to keep up with him when he goes into either bedroom to avoid medication time. Sorry to say, the alternative might be to rehome him if that’s what it takes to assure he gets medications he needs every day. My physical limitations make Andy’s games dangerous for me.

    • I’ve modified the plan to let him have some of the day with access to the bedrooms. This will change if he gets away with avoiding his medicine!

  1. We send purrayers that these changes help you and Andy continue to work together for the best for both of you ! You are pretty important to one another !

  2. I hear you and understand the dilemma, Doug. Leah has a good suggestion there with a rescue group possibly being able to help with medication. Here, I am the one who gives medications, trims toenails, etc. Pilling cats or even liquid meds are not among Rick’s many talents, and he would be faced with a similar problem if something happened to me.

  3. Awww, purring Andy is a cutie! Makes me sad to think about you needing to rehome Andy. I understand, we have health problems too and similar fears. Could someone in the neighborhood come by and help medicate? Another blogger suggested that rescue groups might provide such services to help keep animals in homes.
