They may just want to be fed but there is some bigger element of excitement for a buddy come home, too! Maybe dogs are more sincere and guileless than kitties about it. LOL!
One of the dialysis nurses has a dog like that. She tried a number of cures recommended by others…sprays, techniques. etc. What finally helped was the nurse adopted a kitten. The dog and the kitten are best friends and play together all day. The nurse says her dog no longer suffers separation anxiety. Of course all dogs and all cats necessarily get along as buddies this way. Her cat was a couple months old when she got her, as I recall. That’s still s playful age.
I can’t imagine coming home to a house without a cat waiting for me.
Me either. It’s a sweet moment!

Awww…coming home is the best!
I agree on many levels.

You could make a second cat out of his tail!
LOL! No kidding!

The “welcome home” greeting from a dear kitty is one of life’s greatest pleasures! ❤️
I totally agree!

It’s great that Andy is such a dear friend for you, Doug.
I look forward to being greeted each time!
That makes my day as well….my two pups so glad to see me….one of the few joys in my declining years. Have a great Sunday. chuq

My pup has anxiety separation….she hates being away from me and she truly thrilled to see me come home even if has been 15 minutes. chuq

Sahara just wants me and to be with me….she has Mojave for company but that is just not enough. chuq
It can be a big challenge, I know, to help our fur buddies with this issue find comfort.
She does have Mojave who has a somewhat calming effort on her….chuq
Excellent welcome by Andy! Love that first picture, it’s just too cute!
It is a new favorite of mine!
