The longer my Persian kitty boys’ hair grows, the more they need brushing. Dougy generally love, love, loves it, and will hop up on his ottoman to be brushed when I pat the ottoman three times.
I usually catch mats early enough that I can pull them apart with my fingers, then brush out the spot to get any loose hair. Sometimes, though, I miss the mat and snag it with my steel-toothed grooming comb. That upsets Dougy, reasonably enough! See his tail after the latest “incident”!
Yep, the switches of the tail are good indicators that we pussy cats have reached our tolerance level for brushes! Tee hee hee!
Knowing that has saved my hand from Andy’s ire any number of times!
A carpet brush would be more efficient than the ottonan to brush Dougy!! and also a powerful aspirator 🙂

It takes several different styles of combs and brushes to take care of the kitty boys’ grooming needs!
Louis Catorze is perfectly well-behaved when Cat Daddy brushes him, but it’s a gladiatorial death-battle when I do it. 😳
Interesting! Maybe it’s a matter of touch.
Good golly look at those Fu Manchu whiskers….they look so cute. Mine are straight as pokers.
Shoko
They are everywhere, eh? Andy’s are longer, I think, but less wild.
Poor Dougy, I feel for you! Mrrrr!
Angrily,
Beba
It takes some patience getting both boys brushed, but the result is worth it!
Same here! Fortunately, only Beba is a very fluffy one.
I don’t remember is short-haired kitties are that difficult to get to brush. Probably not, though I know they shed enough hair that you have a housekeeping issue if you let it go for long.
Two of my guys are short-haired, but Beba is medium to longish, and if we don’t brush her, Barmalei feels he has to groom his little sister, then he starts yarking hair balls.
“Yarking hairballs” – I think that is my new expression for the process, Dolly! It definitely sound like “yarking”, eh?! Andy lets me brush him a little, so he “yarks” more hairballs than Dougy, who is very compliant.
Do they groom each other?
I’ve never seen them do it. The closest to that is how they sniff each other when they meet.
Then I suppose they yark hairballs because they groom themselves, and they have those luxurious long-hair fur coats!
Exactly! I feed them a dry food that is supposed to control hairballs, but I think it just makes it easier for them to yark them up! LOL! I think brushing them, getting that dead hair out of their fur does much more than the food to control hairballs.
I agree. I also haven’t noticed any effects of that food.
The only thing I think it does is add fiber to their diet, so, theoretically, they poop it out instead of yarking it out the other end!
LOL True that!
I know what you mean, Doug. Willow doesn’t like to be brushed, even though she is short-haired. Grooming is so important, and sometimes the kitties make it difficult. 🙂
Andy does like to have the underside of his neck and chin scratched, so I start there and slowly (try to) brush from there!
It’s true, no one likes their hair pulled. And what about Andy?
Andy is very reluctant to be brushed, but will tolerate some off and on during the day.
dood !!!!! thatz de tale//tail oh : ewe better watch out dad ore else: if we ever saw one !! 🙂 ♥
The GIF doesn’t show the vigor of his tail switching as well as I would like, but he definitely was sending a message!
It’s awesome that you baby these boys so much! The kitty tail tells all doesn’t it!
Yes it does! The kitty boys are very spoiled, thanks to my inexperience with kittens when I got them.
awww… I once read in a book that tigers wave their tail this way before they jump at you… maybe you can wear a helmet for the next brushing time?
They do! The helmet would be an improvement, but shark-resistant stainless steel mesh arm and hand protection would be better.
