28Feb22: Time for play…not!

“What!? What!?”

Andy’s alert to play possibilities.

He makes his move.

Well, that was a bust! Andy leaves for some Greenies treats.

I had some technical difficulties yesterday. That post showed up three places in three different versions, two of which posted on the Reader. Gad! I suggest you click back on yesterday’s post (link below – “the news…“) to see what you may have missed. the three-photo version is the intended one.

Blynken of Salmon Brook Farms…

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod, of Salmon Brook Farms.

Our friend Lavinia Ross of Salmon Brook Farms notified me today that Blynken was unable to survive medical issues and had to be euthanized to end her pain. She would have been nine years old this year in August.

Lavinia wrote earlier, “Blynken was diagnosed with left side heart failure, and has had a body x-ray, cardiac ultrasound and EKG. Her lungs were filled with fluid, making breathing difficult, and she has been stabilized with Lasix, a diuretic and is in an Oxygen cage. Much of the fluid has drained away from her lungs now, and she will be kept overnight.”

Sadly, Blynken’s condition deteriorated. Lavinia wrote, “The vet called this morning and told me to come right away.  She was not able to live outside the oxygen cage, in spite of medication.  The clot moved this morning, and lodged in her front leg, and she was screaming in pain.  They sedated her and kept her on life support until I got there, and was able to see her off.  She was peacefully put to sleep.”

Hugs and condolences to the Ross family on Blynken’s passing.

Lavinia shared other photos of Blynken and her siblings:

Lavinia wrote, “Here is another one of her as a kitten pushing her brother’s head down so she can be in the picture.  And here is a photo of her and her siblings as tiny kittens.  Blynken is on the left.  The Three Sisters all had grey stripes on their heads, which turned white with time.”

RIP Blynken

25Feb22: if he can’t have peace and quiet, he’ll stare at me….

Poor kitty! I keep bugging Andy by talking to him and taking his photo.

My little darling just got too pooped to pop. Sleep finally!

Ukraine deserves better than a Soviet-style invasion. I hope the world can end this soon.

I grew up with the threat of the USSR dropping nuclear bombs on my country, then survived the Cuban missile crisis where those nuclear-tipped missiles were 90 miles offshore. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, I sighed in relief. Gorbachev seemed a nice fellow. Yeltsin was a lovable buffoon. Then this former KGB fellow came along, little by little consolidating his power, tossing those who disagreed with him in prisons, poisoning them, or arranging “suicides”, closing down media that didn’t toe his line.

He’s a short fellow with megalomaniacal plans to restore Russia to some shadow of the USSR, which he longs for. Democracy is just too tough, especially when one expectation is leaders are accountable for their actions. Never mind the former “republics” have had a taste of independence and don’t care to return to 1991, let alone Putin’s 1975, when he had a full head of hair and a safe position in the USSR spy works.

Now, he’s sent his troops into Ukraine. I’m waiting (as I type) for the news of the sanctions the world has worked up. whatever it turns out to be, let it relieve Ukraine of this thug’s invasion.

The armchair generals are out in force. Yes, they know better than the leaders what should be done, though they don’t have access to the intelligence sources the leaders have. Many achieved the rank in the military, at least, of E-4 (corporal; SPEC4) so, of course, they know better what has to be done, should be done.

23Feb22: photo shoot…

Top: facing away, blurry.

Bottom: still blurry, better….

Top: Blurry; looking away.

Middle: Maybe…

Bottom: Somehow better than middle, from which this last one was taken….

It’s never easy choosing photos for this blog. Andy usually “poses” in dark light, and invariably moves a little about the time the smartphone phone takes a photo.

Then there are distractions like this seasonal nuisance:

21Feb22: Andy’s looking…

Andy’s on the hunt.

>sniff! sniff!<

I think he’s hunting kitty toys he knows are here somewhere.

Nothing found, Andy takes a higher look. Still nothing!

(I hide them better than I thought! You can see a rod for one toy and a hint of another against the wall.)

Andy returns to the ottoman. Time for a nap most likely.

20Feb22: Andy asks, “Where did you ‘leaf’ it?”

I put the ‘nip leaf on Andy’s little red door chair. I thought he’s enjoy a little challenge finding the treat.

“…but it’s always, always here!” Andrew thought. He could smell it but didn’t catch on to the little game to find the ‘nip

I held it above the troubled, perplexed kitty…

…and he finally realized where it was.

RAWR!
