Post 1068: Andy has his way…Dougy pays the price

Andy got to play Neko toy without Dougy hogging the toy today. The way it usually goes is Andy has to wait till Dougy’s tired of the play, then hope I’m not so he can get a little play in, too.

He was magnificent! Hopping on chairs, jumping in air, catching and mauling the toy like a proper little tiger!

Dougy finally stopped by, but Andy was so wound up he did the only proper thing: He turned his hunting play on his brother. Poor Dougy! He got wrestled to the ground and given a proper thrashing! He didn’t know what was coming, let me tell you. Andy let him up then and chased him into the guest bedroom.

Andy on the prowl after Neko play and some catnip. He wants to kick kitty butt! Where's that Dougy??

I dpn't get paid to tell you that my cats love, love, love Neko wand toys, and the centipede one is their current favorite.

After Andy beat him up, Dougy still wanted to play. He looked for his favorite in the light stand, where I store there current favorite toys for easy access.

Dougy's hunting style is to hide (in plain sight! lol!) and snatch the wand toy as it goes under the recliner. Giving him credit, he DID try to get in the box while sitting on top of it. LOL!

Marc-Andre of https://katzenworld.co.uk/ posted a comment on this post, I think, that I answered and accidentally deleted instead of posting. (Thanks, WordPress for making that easy to do!) The gist of it was something about his cats and fur flying because of the bad influence of my cats. I know that isn’t anything near what he wrote, that I thought his comment was playful and fun, that I’m pissed I blew it out of the water by accident, and, if he can recall his comment and resend it to me, I will try to recreate my first response, which had something to do with fur flying across the Atlantic. Gad! In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out Marc-Andre’s fun blog, please do. I think it is one of the more entertaining cat blogs on the blogosphere!

  1. MOL…we love Neko toys too. We have the mouse and another toy for it. We like the mouse the best and mom has forgotten what the other one is. Andy was sure going to have his playtime in spite of Dougy. They certainly do have their own personalities.

    • And how! They also like the bumble bee one, though they are a little tired of it at the moment, and Bir Bug. That one, Bir Bug, they really work over, and we are waiting for the third one to replace the second one.

  2. Go Andy! Not that I hold either of them as a favorite…I’m too new to the game to have a favorite but I do get tired of some of the more aggressive or bigger ones hogging things…Go Andy! Maybe Dougy will think next time he bogies the toy. But oh my Andy….where did ALL that aggression come from? OOoooooo Catnip you say…..Well that explains it. ~~dru~~

    • Andy seems more interested in the toy than the light, and Dougy rarely plays longer than a minute or two. Neither seems that interested in laser toys, which is unfortunate because I think they offer the cat lots of exercise and a way to wear down that excess energy. I had another one that I thought would really get their attention. Same response, Dougy played a short time, and Andy went over to the toy and tried to figure out how it worked.

  3. Tony destroyed all the wand toys so I will definitely replace them with Nekos. I have that little green laser toy and it’s the all time favorite in our house. I let it circle a bit and then pick it up and flash it around. They get really riled up chasing it from room to room. Glad Andy had so much fun, never though of catnip as a performance enhancing drug!

    • My two never responded much to laser toys. Andy always seems more intrigued by the source – the laser – than the light itself, and Dougy generally stops playing after a very short time. I think they are the only cats I’ve had or known that didn’t get very involved with the moving light. You’re lucky yours are interested in the laser light because I think cats that play with the light get a lot of healthy exercise , not to mention a chance to work through excess energy! The Neko toy mine liked the best was the Bir Bug. One of the readers of this blog suggested it, and the boys have torn through two, with a good start on number three Bir Bugs. It comes on what looks like a fishing pole that telescopes.

Because they are a bit pricey, I suggest you try one at a time till you establish your kitties like them as much as we others say our cats do.
