Dougy and I have a little morning routine. I try to update this blog, and he gets upset with me. Then I try to determine what he wants to do – brushing, which he love, love, loves! – wand toy, or lots of “scritching”. Being a long-haired kitty boy, that “scritching” is appreciated especially when I scratch that little spot between his eyes! (Makes him drool!)
Today, though, when I decided to sneak a GIF of me brushing him, he spotted a gnat flying by the lamp on the end table. He made his decision! LOL! But he didn’t get the gnat.
Andy and I have our morning routine, too. After the kitty boys have their breakfast, I give Andy his medicine, then treats.
Today, I changed our routine a little bit. I’ve been growing catnip in a kitty treat container Andy and Dougy emptied. It is just right for sharing with my kitty boys now, and Andy appreciates fresh leaf a whole lot!
Though Andy finds the smell of the fresh leaf overwhelming, he gets his kitty on, eats the ‘nip, which he love, love, loves to eat when I crumple it up, put it on the floor. RAWR! Fresh ‘nip! Good!
Being an introverted little guy, he doesn’t react in amusing, wild ways. Fresh greens, though, always are welcome in his world.
Do you always get that much loose fur off?
Yes, at least a brush full daily for Dougy and much less from Andy. Andy’s coat is less dense, but Dougy benefits from a daily brushing or two. Actually, he likes it well enough, I do it a little at a time several times a day. As for Andy, I can go for longer periods, but I check him for potential mats each time I have him held for his twice-daily medicine. I occasionally find a small mat, which I deal with at the time. Dougy’s coat forms them at a faster rate, so I also feel for mats daily.
Cute gif. Glad they are enjoying the nip.
Pure luck! The gnat turned a boring GIF into a mini-action shot! LOL!
Katten zijn verzot op kattenkruid
Ze krijgen ook het voordeel van extra verse groenten in hun dieet als je je eigen voorraad kattenkruid laat groeien!
the catnip has been a treat for Andy ‘ s breakfast . For Dougy the breushing becomes perhaps monotone because you always brush in the same direction ?? 🙂 He needs a change !

Doug moves around to position his body the way he wants me to brush it. If hes tired of it or doesn’t like how I do it, he swats my hand with a paw or nips at my hand or the brush. He knows what he likes or doesn’t!
Nip grew wild around the edge of my yard back in Michigan, smells powerful!
It is a member of the mint family, and tends to take over lots of territory once it is established. I grow it in containers (to contain it!), and have had hilarious if frustrating results trying to grow it outside…in cages!
When I could have cats, they were much deprived, as I never heard of fresh catnip. I also hear cats love silvervine even more. Andy and Dougy have a very good life with you.
I thought the kitties were excessively mean to each other on silvervine, and didn’t give them anymore after the first sample. It is pretty expensive., too.
Oh, I have only heard about it on the Canadian Cats’ blog.
Since Andy and Dougy are rarely aggressive toward each other, Andy’s reaction to silvervine was shocking to me. Give it a try. You may get a different reaction. Andy and Dougy don’t get goofy on catnip so much as milder than typically mild Persians are. You know, you might mistake them for taxidermy specimens. LOL!
I don’t think dogs “use.”
Better that way!
A cat nip plant is a good idea. I have been meaning to look for one. Thanks for reminding me.
Garden supply stores often sell the with their herbs, but starting the from seed is easy to do as it is a weed! If the cats reject it (unlikely), it makes a soothing tea.
Decided to bug-chase, then. Hahaha! Bless him!
The gnat is so small, he lost track of it almost instantly…!
Hahaha!
Ours never had fresh catnip. I might have to see if I can find some to see if they like it even more than the dried one.
It’s easy to grow and the seeds are available online. I highly recommend growing this weed for your kitties!
Our only problem is that we have no garden. I wonder how it would fair on the window sill. 🤣
Si has successfully grown cat nip on our bedroom windowsill.
He did keep a plastic propagator over the top of the the seeds, until the plants had established though. – They needed this protection from the cats!
Fully grown plants were planted into a large plant pot, then an upturned metal fruit bowl protected the plant from the cats rubbing on it.
Oh excellent idea. I shall try that. 🙂
That’s where I grow it, and there is just enough light to get the job done. It isn’t pretty, but it is ‘nip! My success planting and growing it outside are inversely related to the number of cats wandering around the neighborhood, the more cats, the less successful I’ve been. LOL! Actually, one free range cat is all it takes to end the experiment.
We shall try 🙂
We have a wire cage that Si has constructed, for a trough we grow some in outside. It allows the plant to grow through, but protects the delicate base area, so even when most of the top of the plant has been flattened or squashed, it will grow back.
Brilliant! Actually, it grows back bushier, doesn’t it?
that gnat escaped? oh how bad… but we always meet twice, right?
The sun will come up tomorrow, as the song suggests! Dougy will be ready.
I was just wondering what type of brush you use on your boys?
I got it at their groomers. Oddly, it has no writing on it, and I was unable to locate grooming tools with the distinct handle this one has. It is a pretty good one for long-haired pets, and is gentle on the skin. (I tried it on my arm!) Sorry I can’t help. I’ve had two of the for several years. The groomer doesn’t have any more in stock – I looked.
It looks very different to the usual slicker brush, which is what I use. Obviously it does your boys coats very well looking at their photos 😀
Thanks for getting to me.
Getting that dead hair out of their coats makes a big difference. They would probably say kitty treats is the magical reason for great coats, but I think brushing and quality cat food may h=be a bigger reason, Ha!
I totally agree with you Weggiboy 😀
The fine wire bristles get through to the undercoat, and deal with that dead hair that otherwise ends up in mats. I really like it of all the grooming tools I have. It was recommended to me by their groomer.
