A new development: a fly got in the house. Boy oh boy! The kitties are in hunt mode now, swatting at the fly when it flies by, performing amazing acrobatic leaps into the air, and generally getting lots of healthy exercise, something inside pampered kitties can always use more of!
=(^+^)=
The boys’ favorite people are delivery people, especially those who leave boxes. Such a person visited yesterday, and Dougy quickly claimed his new box!

Woohoo! A new box for Dougy!

Andy is unhappy because he didn’t claim the box first…but there always is the fly!

“Tough stuff, brother! I was here first!”

Dougy dozes in the luxury of his new box: “Life is good!” he thinks, “And it doesn’t have to get better than this!”
Around here, flies are good but moths are better. 🙂
The boys like crickets even more, though moths definitely are a strong No. 2 in their ranks of favorite prey!
Oh, yes boxes. Why does anyone invent cat toys when the world is full of boxes and paper bags? And flies.
And having said that, I can’t resist buying a cat toy now and then. It’s so I can play.
Exactly! I am the same way. Of course, the toys I order come through the mail or UPS… in boxes! There you go! The boys get very excited when they see the delivery people at the door because they think they are going to get a new box to polay ion. They also like to play on top of magazines or pieces of paper. I was reading a magazine this afternoon when Andy came over and bugged me till I threw the magazine on the floor. He then climbed on top of it and played king of the mountain! (Such as the mountain was – a fraction of an inch taller than the surrounding area. Ha!)
The “Fly” in the house thing was funny but I want to mention that a house fly got into my bird cage the other day and my pet finches — who have never been outside except to go to the car to go to the veternarian to have their toes trimmed — That fly got into the bird cage and the finches put up a really fuss …. chirping loudly, fluttering their feathers and flying around their cages …. It sounded to me like they were about to suffer strokes so I spent some time getting that fly out of the house and the birdies calmed down.
I never gave any thought to how birds might react to a fly. That’s crazy! You did the right thing, it sounds like!
Reblogged this on MoéGrrL.
I imagine the fight with the fly! 🙂
Do not yo find Dougy looks cute in the box ? 🙂
In friendship

Dougy is cute in the box! It’s one of his cutrest behaviors! He’s always climbing into boxes or tubs. Andy less so. Andy prefers high places over tight ones.
That’s a lovely photo of Andy the master fly swatter. (Send the boys here for a while, please. My cat just ignores flies. Maybe she’s a Buddhist?)
LOL! Buddhist kitty! They have a Zen-like quality about them cats do, so I can imagine a caty that lets other life forms go. My boys like the sport, so put lots of energy into stalking spiders, crickets, moths, ants, flies, random critters that stray inside.
MOL!😹 OH such FUN! I’m not all that into boxes, but I LOVE chasing flies!!
Both of my boys love to chase critters! Don’t let “cute” make you think they aren’t serious predators, given a chance! Dougy can’t resist a box. Andy is more likely to seek out a high place over a tight one, though he will play in boxes if Dougy lets him.
I like high places too – especially windowsills with lots of stuff in them that need “rearranged!”😹
That’s a service of kittydom that frequently is under-appreciated. Soooo unfair!
Absolutely! I tell you, we kats purrform all kinds of services that are never even noticed! Can you believe it!?
Some of us finally figure it out, but we humans often need more than one exposure to get there….!
Well at least you get there!😺
_(^+^)- Yep1
MOL!😹
hahaha…Dougy looks absolutely ticked!! His face says…you think this is so much fun….you sit in a box that barely fits and have someone take your picture! P – a- lease! Gimme a break! I laughed so hard when I saw his expression. Reminds me of Shoko’s evil eye.

Wait till you see today’s post – Dougy had a major encounter with a paparazzo…!
We had one last nite it’s great to watch them freak out
As always Sheldon
That it is! My boys even take out after those tiny gnats that hatch out of potting soil. Nothing is too small or insignificant to ignore!
Dougie won the box, but did Andy catch the fly?
That fly lived to fly another day. Dougy still has the box, but Andy is OK with that because he likes to doze on top of my pc or that blue carrier on the settee.
I think a big part of the fun of having the box is the knowledge that Andy does not have it.
That is exactly the way it is! You know your cats!
Seeing Dougy with his new box reminded me of this cat house video I saw last week. Hope you enjoy it too. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2933115/The-man-turned-house-feline-fantasy-Builder-creates-utopia-14-cats-complete-ledges-tunnels-soothing-music.html
A cat paradise for sure! I rent, so this isn’t possible for me, but the cats make up for it by using window sills, furniture, regulation cat trees for their climbing and escape from each other when they have spats.
When I see what others do for their cats, I feel like a slacker!
I think Dougy and Andy are completely content.
I hope so. That’s my intent: to make their life with me the most pleasant I can make it.
They’ve got it so good. Don’t worry.
My only concern is them out-living me or me having to go into a care center because of medical issues I continue to have. I’m working on finding them a post-me home with someone who appreciates older cats and is willing to take both in together. I don’t anticipate anything like this happening anytime soon, if ever, but I would want the boys to continue to have good quality of life no matter what!
Look at that expression of pure contentment and joy. Yep life is good!
That is classic Dougy!
Ah…the looks of satisfaction….
That’s my boy! Dougy often has that look!
almost a superiority look….LOL
Smug Dougy….! Yes, it looks that way, and the way he manages to look like Mussolini make you want to stage a coup on behalf of Andy! LOL!
LOL..he is great!
That he is!
